I have a 5 speed trans-axle that will not come out of reverse. It feels like the shifter is stuck. If I push really hard I can get it almost into neutral, but that's it. It just grinds like it's not quite in gear. I can get back into reverse, but no other gear. This problem started all of sudden. I've never had it happen before.

I believe we call that a planetary gear, found in the rear of the transmission. Its gone.

Hi I have a 2005 ford focus 2.0 automatic. I was reversing out of my drive no problems put the car into auto and the car jerked forward then made a loud clunking sound and wouldnt go. I can drive the car...

cannot be sure here without a on site inspection but i would hazard a guess and say the flex drive plate has broke around the crankshaft retaining bolts ,its a gearbox out job to repair ,the plate holds the torque converter in position to the engine crank ,Dont get this problem with a manual transmission

My 1995 Ford pick-up did that to. You should give it about 10 seconds from pressing the clutch to going into reverse.Dealer said not to put it in reverse to quick.give 10 seconds.

1988 Ford Bronco Transmission Issues

is the idle speed correct? do you shift into second before trying to engage reverse?, is the clutch ok, this is most likely not the trans at all but one of the above issues, the clutch is my guess.

1991 Ford F150 Jumps out of 4W drive sometimes in reverse

My 94 did the same thing. In a automatic, you have to come to a full stop, it usually grinds when in 4L ,And for the shifter, I had to look at mine, 2w is all the way forward to the dash, then 4H is toward you 1 click, and "N" is the next toward you, then 4L , you have to push the lever down and pull backwards. Always come to a full stop when changing gears and wait a few seconds before changing direction.

1991 Acura Integra will not drive in reverse

I have the same problem in my 1991 Integra LS Sedan Automatic, when i put it in reverse it makes a grinding noise and won't engage...i've been told the "reverse fork" or something is probably bent which can be common from rocking a car from "D" to "R" to get unstuck from mud or snow and to fix this the tranny needs to be taken apart and fixed, or if any cheaper then replace the transmission. Could also do an auto to manual trans conversion, but those are the only options. Fixing the specific reverse problem would be cheaper than rebuilding the whole trans which a lot of ppl say is the solution
