this is a front wheel drive car. so the only things in the rear wheel area that typically make noise would be the rear brakes or the wheel bearings. Because you notice it more when braking i suspect the brakes are worn out. inspect the brake pad wear on both the inside and outside pads, if they look ok, you would need to investigate further for a possible wheel bearing or hub issue.
Since you indicate a rubbing noise and not a grinding noise when turning left ... check that all the plastic wheel well liner pieces are in the correct place ...including any access doors (if there are any).
It is difficult to say if the noise is related to your ABS/traction lights going weird while going over a bump. Usually this type of light issue means there is a partial bad electrical connection somewhere between the sensor on the wheel and the controller. It could be at the sensor or in a line connector somewhere.
I assume your brake person verified that the sensors are OK
it is your wheel bearing. the bearing is a sealed unit so you replace the hub assembly. remove wheel,caliper,brake rotor.if it is 4x4 loosen axle nut. there are three 15mm bolts on back side of spindle remove these and slide hub out replace with new one. most hubs come with new wheel speed sensor so remove harness from connectors or if no new one remove the screw holding it in place to hub and slide out.
Ok, there are sensors on your front wheel hubs. This could easily cause the abs light to turn on. The loud noise could easily be your wheel hub going bad. Easiest way to check, jack up the front of the truck, grab tire, shake back and forth and up and down. Same amout of play each way? You're wheel hub is bad.......
There are a couple of things to cause metallic sounds when turning. First thing, is if it's a clicking sound when you turn, then you have a cv joint going bad. It's usually more prominent when moving in reverse, however it can happen just as well while moving forewards. Secondly, if it's more of a grinding or scraping noise, we have a couple of options. The sound could be coming from the brakes, if they're worn or have grit stuck in them, or it could be bad bearings in the front wheel hub. The wheel hub has a tendency to making a whining noise when driving; usually most easily heard when driving past buildings. They can also allow the tire/wheel to present the appearance of leaning when looking at it. If bad enough, it can even rub on the brake caliper, or cause the disc brake rotor to wear out the brake pads prematurely. So, to recap:
CV joints, if a clicking sound
brakes or wheel hub bearings if grinding or whining sound.
you have to replace bearing and hub as a unit.you have to remove remove brakes and caliper rotor set them aside dont disconnect brake line. get a piece of clothes rack wire to hold brake caliper .do not let it hang by brake hose. you got to remove hub nut. best way to do that is loosen it a litttle while tire still on weight of car keep wheel from turning .
Have you tried driving over a bump whilst also applying the brakes? (Right foot on gas, left gently on brake - with no one behind you!) If the noise goes away, then it could be the brake pads that are not fitted correctly. Only posting this, as this just happened to mine...the mechanic took it over bumps and noise was there. Applied brakes whilst going over bump, noise went away. Replaced badly fitted rear pads (had been bodged by another garage) and the problem was solved.
