I have a 2005 chevy cavalier and about 3 months ago the car developed a water leak in the engine. I am in the process of replacing the head gasket. During the process the manual tells you to put ,#1...

you booggered (fixya regard this word in correct spelling as profanity, stupidity of the censorship is astonishing...) it up royally... you removed the belt without marking the positions on the shaft and on the head.

1. it is very difficult to crank the motor in the car, if motor is out of teh car - you should not have any problems turning it by hand. if engine is in the car - put your gearbox on neutral, it should allow you now to turn
2. try rotating by hand - if not, find ring spanner or better socket wrench and put some extension on it, there is big nut on the pulley on the end of the main shaft, this is dimension of the socket wrench or ring spanner - DO NOT USE OPEN END SPANNER! slowly turn clockwise till you reach tdc, retract and put it again in position.

that is the end of the settings on the engine, you need now determine if this is the end of the exhaust cycle or end of compression cycle, you head now need to match the cycle exactly on the head...

if piston cycle do not match exactly head cycle you will destroy the engine on first start! valves will open at wrong time and with wrong clearance usually bending or brocking the shafts, destroying valve seats in the process as well... whole head need then replacement.

hope this short note will help you a bit - do not forget to vote or if you have additional questions - ask.

My transmission line is leaking (2002) Trailblazer. Is there a way to patch it without changing out the whole line?

If it is in a spot where you can easily work on it, then you can cut the line and put in a compression fitting. The line needs to be relatively rust free for it to work properly. Cut the line and clean up the ends, slide the nut on first and then the ferrule and tighten.
If the line is too rusty to do this then you can replace it with a piece of steel brake line. Make sure it is the same diameter and length or a little longer. Also make sure the ends are the same, some are double flared and some are ballon flared. You need to know for sure because they can't be interchanged. Brake line won't come with the right ends to screw on but you should be able to get brass fittings the fix you up.
If you don't want to replace the whole line get a short piece of brake line that will span to 2 good sections of your current line but you will probably have to double flare your current line ends so the unions will go on. There aren't any fittings that have a compression fitting on 1 end and a union on the other.
Hope this helps.

Need to replace fuel filler neck on 1999 dodge dakota

I just replaced one today. I found this post looking for an answer myself and ended up just going for it. The metal at the end of the plastic hose is a clamp that was compressed with a special tool. Here is what I did.

I cut the compression clamp open with a Dremel and a cut off wheel. Be careful not to cut through to the plastic. I did a little at a time the whole length of the clamp and cut through only at the end about 3mm. I then put a screwdriver in there any was able to pry it up and break the clamp in half since I had cut most of the way through it. Take your time.

With the clamp off it will still be hard to get the metal tubes out. I had badly rusted tubes so I broke them off near the plastic tube and bent the end inside the plastic a little with a hammer. I was then able to pull the vent tube out. On the fill tube I bent it to move it away from the plastic enough to get tin snips in there. I cut it and could then get the tube out.

It looked like there was some kind of rubber ring on the tubes. I used some sealer on the tube when I slid it in the plastic and used regular hose clamps. Make them very tight. You don't want an air leak.

No power after shifting and hitting passing gear just put in new plugs

Your vehicle is old enough to have old and brittle Vaccum Lines.... Buy a few feet of Vaccum hose and cut one piece at a time and replace all the vaccum lines on your entire engine. Never take a whole hose off completely when you do this. Only take one end off at a time, plug in the new hose, then do the same with the other end. Vaccum hoses are a major hidden "Problem Creator" that is over looked all too often.. It is a cheap fix, a often solution to solve your problem as described. Good luck...
