Question about Cars & Trucks

1 Answer

Ok, I have changed the spark plug wires and plugs, I drive the car to town, which is 40 miles away, I go to the store and come out and try to start the car and it won't start, it has to set for one hour to cool off, then it will start, I've changed the fuel pump, the fuel filter, and I don't know why it will not start when it has been driven for an hour or more

SOURCE: 1992 buick lesabre starts fine.

You check the coils with a ohm meter. They should 6-8 thousand ohms at the spark plug connections. One lead to one spark plug connection and the other lead to the other . It's not likely a coil for stalling. If coil , Your car can still run on four cylinders. It can be a ignition module. It fails when it gets extremely hot. The module is located under the coils.

SOURCE: Why won't my car stay started when i put the key

these jeeps are famous for the crank sensor going when the car wont run check the injector circuit it will show no voltage if you change the crank sensor make sure you hold it in when you tighten the bolt if you start the engine and start getting misfire codes loosen the crank sensor push it in just a little bit more you only have a few thousands of an inch it makes a difference . new sensors have a cardboard circle glued on them to prevent you from pushing it in so it hits the flywheel i had an issue where it had to be pushed in twice to run right auto parts store 38.00 dealer wanted 170.00 i bought the 38.00 one hope this helps

Starting problum

you might want to change the resistor wires if you have anywhere close to 90 or 100k miles on your car. The wires actually start getting hard and brittle after miles and miles of all that heat. In some cases, that will cause the wires to open or get breaks in the insulation. Which in turn will lead to no spark at the plugs. You can tell by pulling the wires off one at a time and holding it about an 1/8 of an inch away from a screwed in spark plug. You should see a little arc of electricity if you have no problem. You will see nothing if you do have a problem.

Car stars up and drives just fine ..until it warms up...I can drive 6 miles or so and it dies and will not start from 30 to 90 minutes or I got to the store 3 miles away go in shop for 10 min come out...

I would try to replace the coil. Shouldn't be too much money. A coil controls the spark for your spark plugs. And that is basically what it is. A coil of copper wire. When the coil gets warm the wire inside separates and you lose spark. When it cools down the copper shrinks back down and makes connection.

I hope this helps!! If so please check YES! Thanks!

How often do i need to get a tune up and what parts do i need to buy for the tune up?

once or twice a year is good for an actual tune up which is new fuel filter, plugs, plug wires, & antifreeze.
About every other year, you should replace tranny fluid and filter. Not bad idea to have coolant and tranny flushed every 2-3 years too.

Sometimes the engine doesn't start and the spark plugs are wet

Change cap & plug wires. If emergency before wire & cap repalcement, spray wires & cap with WD-40, let sit a few minutes & try it. WD-40 displaces moisture. Don't keep doing that though, its dangerous, just replace wires & cap.

Car will not start

All the things you replaced were a great place to start. I would suspect the ignition coil. approx. 119.00 for OEM a lot less at the parts store.
