Question about 2000 Nissan Altima

Key doesn't work to unlock door locks & remote doesn't work fully

For some time now the one and only key we have for this car does not work to unlock the passenger door or the trunk. It does work on the driver's side door, though we just experienced a scare. Do car keys get worn? I've never experienced this before. If I remember right there is something special about the key requiring dealer involvement (it's a racket!)

Also - the keyless remote (we have 2) does not always work. One remote does not work to unlock the doors (car and trunk), but it will lock them. The other will randomly pop the trunk, but only when the car is not running. This trunk-popping may happen 3-4 times one right after another.

I have been locked out of my car many times when I did not lock it myself. 2 times the car was running with the keys in the ignition. Another time it was not running but the keys were in the ignition. It has also locked without the keys in the ignition a few times lately.

Try getting some dry lubricant and applying it in the lock this usually works well. cold weather usually makes the problem worse.

Driver door's handle doesn't unlock all the 4 doors. It unlocks only driver door. Before the touch handle use to unlock all the 4 doors. The same works well from front passenger door.

The vehicle can be programmed to either open all the doors, or just the driver door. Check in the main menu for changing that function from just drivers door to all. (its also outlined in your owners manual)

All my remotes won't unlock passenger doors, why?

this is a problem that can appear after your car battery died, cause the car didn't reset propely, so taking the battery out and putting it back in or letting your car die again would do the trick. I tried a lot of reprogramming procedured for my remote key, none of them worked, what did the trick though was simply unlocking the doors via the all door unlock button on the passenger side door, so simple.

Trunk will not open fuel door will not open all fuses ok

You have listed the vehicle is a 1987 Jaguar XJ6. The trunk is not electronic and only unlocks with the key as well as both the gas doors. Any issues here then it is your key or the actual trunk latch. If you do have a 1988 model year then the trunk lock has 3 positions. locked all the time, unlocked all the time or the vertical position locks and unlocks with the vehicles drivers door lock. If the trunk button (paddle) is loose and moves but nothing happens then the inside rod has come loose and you will have to manually operate the latch by removing the license plate and taking a long screw driver through the lower plastic bungs. The fuel flap is a separate unite and does have a manual release but you need to open the trunk to get to it. If the fuel flap stays locked all the time then the actually filler neck module will need replacing. If you have a 1997 which has the electronic release button to open the trunk (95-2003) Then you will need to firstly lock all door and unlock the drivers door 2 times. Check the fuel flap is now released, if not then the fuel flap actuator located on the filler neck inside the trunk is bad. If the trunk does not open with the remote, inside car switch and trunk mounted switch then the passenger side trunk harness is broken. Open the trunk with the key and on the right(passenger) hinge there is a grey plastic cover, remove that cover and carefully peel back the wiring harness cover and you will find 1 or more broken wires. Once the wires are repaired then I recommend you zip tie them in place and retest the trunk release button. If this does not answer any of your questions please feel free to email mejpseuro@gmail.com

Your locks are out of sync. Lock all doors from Drivers side. Then go around to passenger side unlock, lock and relic. Should be able to unlock doors from drivers side as normal. If not, then one of your actuators are bad.

jimmy: it sounds like the drivers door unlock tamper switch or the other switch may have failed. One side can affect the other under certain circumstances. Your trunk lock also has a switch which arms and disarms the antitheft system. Try locking all the doors, make sure the hood and trunk lid are closed and then open the trunk. Leave it open open the drivers door and try to start the car.
If it's a no start. Disconnect the ground battery cable then put the ignition key in the run position in you ignition switch. Reconnect the battery and try to start the car. It should start. This usually will override the anti theft system. One issue with this will be, whether the antitheft system will remain disarmed.
Although I have never tried this before, I know that the system will not arm unless all the doors, trunk and the hood are closed.
I could suggest this to try if the car starts as I had told you pertaining to disconnecting the battery cable, I would take the switch and unbolt it from the passenger's side of the engine compartment just forward of the shock tower. Just let it sit somewhere so it doesn't get caught up in anything moving. If there is a light under the hood of your car, remove the bulb.
Let me know how you make out.
