Your ECU or TCU might be going bad Electronic control unit or Transmission control unit.

Usually bad "solenoid pack" inside automatic trans. Although, you usually also get a slight hesitation followed by a "clunk" when switching from forward to reverse. Also possibly computer programming error. If it has "adaptive" shifting (i.e. "computer learns your driving pattern and shifts accordingly"), you can have Ford change the programming to a standard shift pattern. (It's a wonderful difference in transmission performance).

1 and 2 should be your oxygen sensors and 7 is throttle positioning sensor but it could be your coil pack

CHECK TRANSMISSION FLUID LEVEL FIRST BUT IT SOUND LIKE YOU NEED A FLUID AND FILTER CHANGE IF TRANSMISSION FILTER STOPPED UP TRANSMISSION PUMP CAN DRAW FLUID THROUGH CLOGGED FILTER.WHEN ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION GET HOT FLUID WILL GET HOT AND THIN ENOUGH TRAVEL THROUGH FILTER SO CAR CAN SHIFT INTO OVER DRIVE.DO A FLUID AND FILTER CHANGE SEE WHAT HAPPENS.

93 honda accord the automatic trans wont shift auto but works great shifting manually, how do I fix it

your having a transmission problem, common problem are the shift solenoids get dirty and won't let it shift, have them taken off and cleaned, they have little screens on bottom of them.change the fluid at same time. clicking noise is normal when you step on brake when in park this click is from the interlock solenoid under center console.

Trans automatic shifts hard when hot but you can shut off ign. and it will starting shifting OK..

I am guessing by the concern and year of the truck that has more than 150,000kms. The reason I suspect the mileage is it sounds to me as though the (TCC) torque convertor clutch PWM valve has worn it's bore in the valve body. When this happens and the trans gets good and hot (normal use) the ATF has thinned to the point that it begins to flow past the PWM valve instead of signalling the TCC apply valve to apply the TCC. This in turn makes the PCM believe there is a slip in the trans and it signals the Pressure Control Solenoid to increase pressure therefore leading to your hard shift. Because it is not a "hard failure" the PCM does not store a code and therefore forgets the problem when you shut the truck off, explaining why it works okay on restart. At least until it gets hot again.

Slipping transmission when hot

Check the fluid level and make sure it is up.If o/k then suggest a trans service which will have the filter and fluid changed. This could be your problem.

You have a bit of metal or clutch material in a fluid passage, you will need to pull the trans valve body and have it hot tanked, if that doesn't fix it you will need an overhaul. Good luck
