Question about Cars & Trucks

I have a 2001 Mercury Grand Marquis. All of a sudden the car cuts off then back on again. The blinkers are flashing oddly too. I pulled on a parking lot and it died so I put it in neutral and started it, by the time I pulled into a parking space it died and when I turned the key nothing, absolutely nothing. I turned the key and put the car in neutral to back it up from the bushes and I got lights and dinging so I started it. On the way home it did okay until I slowed to turn on my road. It cut in and out a couple of times. What is going on with the car? Never experienced anything like this before.

There can be a number of things . it sounds like you are losing fuel pressure. check the fuel pressure regulator. there where any codes. when was the last tune up,

    I'm not sure when the last time it was tuned up, the car belonged to my father and he passed in February. No sir, there were not any codes, it just dies like there is not battery then starts runing again. It does not matter if the engine is warm or cold. I drove it about 30 miles today, made two stops then back and it did not cut out.

I think that your crank angle sensor failed. Is the check engine light on?? if so, scan it and get code. If the code is P0335, than you need new crank angle sensor. Nissan has been having some problems with those even on other Nissan products. (Altima, Pathfinder and so on) Good luck.

Ok this was all after the car was all warmed up how far can you go from a cold start until it "dies:?
I want to suspect a crank sensor or ignition module just because of the symptoms if nothing happens until the egine gets hot ,typical of a failing crank sensor andignition module, always replace them togother.
But there is one more culprit, the catalytic Converter, see they break up inside and over time the catalyist bounces around and becomes a ball, on acceleration the presssure of the exhaust pushes the "ball' of caytlist into the exhaust pipe opening restricting it until it shuts off the car. You pull over the pressure goes away the "ball" falls back into the cat, you start again and it starts all over again. I would hve the cat tested and you can do a test yourself hit the cat on the bottom with a hammer and if you hear some rattling inside when you hit it yhe catalist is broken and is likely your problem.

Fairly common problem, you just need a new timing belt.

the battery is dead, it's as simple as that. the battery only needs a tiny bit of power to turn on the interior lights and panel lights, but it does not have enough to dis-engage park lock out electric solenoid.

First off, check your battery terminals and posts for corrosion or any other cause of a poor connection.  If your connection to the battery is cutting out/back on rapidly it would cause exactly those symptoms.  also inspect the battery cables end to end for poor connections corrosion or breaks/tears in the insulating coating.  if that yields no answers it is probably a sensor for the ecu or the fuel delivery system.  good luck!

Remove the backseat out of 2001 mercury grand marquis


You put your fingers under the back seat bottom cushion between the floor and cushion, and pull up hard and fast. It will come loose and then you can remove it from car. Then you will see two bolts that hold the back cushion in. Remove those bolts and then you can push up on the back cushion and it will come unhooked. Then you can remove it also.

My 2001 grand marquis has just cut off earlier ia man came and tapped on the accelerator and it jus cut on now its cut off again WHAT SHOULD I DO I NEED MY CAR FOR WORK IN THE MORNING!!!!


Start with the most obvious. Check the fuel level in the tank. Check there is spark to the plugs. Check your fuel filter to see if restricted. After this, have the fuel rail pressure checked. Download the fault codes and have them analized to pinpoint any faulty sensors. I feel the trouble is in the fuel system, and these checks will show it up.

Try turning the ignition to on and wait about 10 minutes. Assuming it has been flashing, it will stop when it is reset. This problem will most likely occur again in the future.

most cars have an oil pressure sensor that is tied into the fuel system that will shut off fuel pump if oil pressure is low. Ford is famous for having a yellow fuel pump cut off switch that activates in a collision - you need to locate and check this 1st

this usually indicates a blinker bulb has burned out.check that front & back lights are working w/blinker on.
