Then the door is not moving or the heater core is plugged.

1995 wind star min van blowe cool in rear and hot air in front plenty freeon fues are good

I would check the blend door actuator. If the door is open all the way, one direction, the air blows over the heater core. All the way in the other direction, the air blows over the evaporator. Anywhere in between, a blend of hot and cold for temp control. That explanation is a little simplistic. the info is for ford windstar.

I have the 2001 GC ES with dual automatic climate control. The heat works in the front, but blows ice cold in the back, at all speeds, no matter how long vehicle has been moving. I'm starting to wonder if...

If you have heat in the front the engine cooling system is operating normally (waterpump ok) If the rear hoses were rusted out you would have front issues too due to collant loss. I sounds like either the rear controller has a problem with the temperature door actuator or an electrical problem going to the actuator. They sometimes have a heater valve which shuts off coolant flow to the rear heater core. It is located in the engine, where the rear hoses split to the rear. They are usually vacuum operated, possibly the valve or vacuum issue, check there. Feel the rear hoses under the van with the rear heat on. One should be hot and the other warm (this would indicate the heater core and valve are functioning). If the rear fan works the fuse is ok for the controller.

My 2000 winstar has duel heat, the rear works, but the front does not.

This is most likely caused by a failure of the heater blend door actuator, which you can fix at home in about three hours (if you have small hands). The front heater is actually working, but the blend door is stuck shut by the failed actuator and is preventing the heat from reaching the dashboard vents. To get at the blend door actuator, you have to take the radio out. Behind it and built into the duct work of the heater is the actuator module, which you can remove and replace fairly easily. NO heat in front of 2001 windstar van. Thumping

Blend air door may be stuck. I removed a pencil from a heater box before. It had fallen from the dash, down through the defrost vents and jamed the door.

2000 escalade ext ...only rear air conditioning ..nothing from front panel...only ambient air from front ...why?

Sounds like you have a door mode actuator failed. This is fairly common. Sometimes the door actually breaks. You may have to remove the whole HVAC box to fix it if the door broke

The problem is a 1/8 diameter hose that runs from the front of the engine over the top and connects at the rear of engine on the drivers side. It is a vacuum hose #GM15967970 It cost about $6.22 at your GM dealer. Hope this helps Bill. My E-Mail is Uflyups@aol.com
This was posted on a problem with a 2002 astro, I do believe it is the same fix. A simple vacuum hose, It is difficult to route through the engine
