Question about 2006 Ford Taurus

My 2006 Ford Taurus feels like it is missing while I accelerate, and feels like it is going to turn off when I'm in low idle. I have been shifting into nuetral when stopped so I can push the gas a little and keep the car from sputtering off. Engine light is now on too.

Do a diagnostic check, by going to a local dealership service center, they can tell you the exact problem by plugging your car into a computer

most likely cause is a defective ignition coil, there is one for each cylinder (coil over plug), the dealer will have to test it to determine which of the eight coils is the source of the miss. the coils are about $60 each

You are going to think I'm nuts but, it's probably the power steering pump or, and most likely the rack & pinion. Your own description of the symptoms are common indicators of a bad rack & pinion. The turning left thing is also a classic sign.

It will only get worse and, could jam on you while driving. You dont want that!!!
Have it checked soon.

I have a 2000 ford Taurus that putts at idle, but not at acceleration. Car stalls when not warmed up. I have to keep my foot on gas pedal to keep car from stalling when warming up. I've had oxygen...


There is an idle control valve in the air intake circuit that gets dirty. Ford says not to clean this valve but to replace it. However cleaning seems to work for me.

I have Replace Spark Plugs Cap & rotor were change air filter & fuel filter & TPS/EGR..... & it has a rebuilt ENG in it...this could be a sensor. But which one could it Be?

Had transmssion work recently. They put in a new speed sensor. Well...now a month or two latwr when i start the car she idles very rough and when i press the gass it feels like i don't have alot of power...


It sounds fuel related the fact that it idles rough and you lack power causes you to press the accelerator pedal more to to get the car to go which in turn causes the transmission to stay in 1st and 2nd gear longer bringing up the rpm's. The problem could be a bad fuel pump not allowing proper fuel pressure to reach the injectors This could also be caused by a bad fuel pressure regulator valve or a bad fuel filter all of these could cause low fuel pressure. It could also be a bad fuel injector or a throttle position sensor (TPS) could also be a bad (PCV) I would suggest having the fuel pressure tested first as I dont think your problem is related to the transmission repair you had done.

Rough Idle, misses when warmed up, After being run on the highway (70 MPH+) it makes a noise that feels like a mis, but sounds like a popping noise.


check it for a tune up. check plugs. spray wires with a mist of water while engine is running (don't touch the wires) look for sparks arcing. check cap and rotor for wear/corrosion.

2006 Taurus surges


Take your car into an Autozone. They do free engine diagnosis when the check engine light is on. They'll hook it up to a reader and it'll give them a code to cross reference. That'll at least let you know why your check engine light came on. I'm sure it has something to do with the surging as well. You'll at least have a better idea of where to begin looking.
