The plastic nut that holds the right side shifter cable broke. How can I make repairs?

What is year--make and model?

Will the bracket come off of cable? Can you make a new bracket? Take the nut to auto store, see if they have anything that might work? My biggest problem is I can't see anything from here.

You may need to crawl under your car and adjust your shifter cable where is attaches to the trans. the nut may have come loose and repositioned your shifter

My envoy is stuck in reverse the shift will not move and I can not press the button to move the shift. Can someone tell me what it can be please

The trans shift cable is held onto the shifter with a little round plastic clip that you can get from the "help" section at your local auto parts store for under $15. Common problem, the clip wears out and the cable pops off.

Positive battery cable(s) have turned to crud. Where does the main cable go, what does it connect to and how is it routed. Is this something I could get at an auto parts retailer or would I need to order...

an autoparts store should stock a replacement cable, follow the cable back to the alternator and replace from there forward, remember to put some dielectric grease on the contacts for added life of the contacts

it sounds like your shifter cable came loose. the end piece came out that connects to your transmission. you will have to jack up the car and manually shift it back to park and then either replace your shifter cable which is 85$ or so just for parts or use a shifter cable replacement kit which runs for about 20 bucks online. the cable will only be sold by a dealer

2004 Chevy Venture will not shift into gear

Had neighbor look at this same problem. Turned out the shifter cable linkage near the top of transmission had popped off. They popped it back on and works but a bushing in the clip probably needs replaced. The neighbor rewched over engined top between firewall and engine and popped it back on.
Works fine but does needs a clip/bushing part and auto parts store has to get from Chevy

Saturn shifter linkage

The bushings on ebay work from what I understand, but a bit pricey. The bushing in question is a P.O.S. for sure. Easy fix though if you have tools and time. First I drilled out the ball that the end of the linkage, the one your faithfull broken bushing use to ride on. popped a 3/8 inch bolt thru the drilled hole, put a piece of 3/8 inch heater hose "cut to length desired" over the bolt ( this is what the linkage ring rides on ) put a rubber gromet or rubber washer that has a hole big enough to fit over the heater hose on each side of the linkage ring ( oh and dont forget the lube - regular grease will eat rubber so use good judgement). put a washer big enough to keep your gromet or rubber washer from falling off, and then a lock nut, and I cannot stress the fact that it has to be a lock nut. DO NOT tighten the living **** out of everything, that little linkage ring is plastic after all just tighten it "lightly snugish" and just make sure your lock nut can't be un-tightened by hand. I hope all of this makes sense, anyway total repair cost- one hour of my time, about $4 of parts at the local auto parts store. best of all, it should outlast the car. Oh fyi, I used rubber parts because that is less likely to break the plastic linkage ring. Showed what I did to a mechanic in town, said now he actually knows what to do next time one of those f-ing saturns comes in with busted linkage. Good luck fellow "manual" saturn owners!
