The tach goes to the power and the ground and the signal lead goes to the negative terminal of the coil.

Why are both connectors on my heated rear window live 1975/6 mgb gt?

every thing I got on rear window defogger ,is that one should be hot and the other ground ,and look for a short or wires broken , if you ground test meter on a body ground and touch other probe to middle of grid you should get a reading 5-6 volts its ok some use same type of grid for antenna. but you'll know if you have an external antenna. test lights are not the best to use for this testing .I really hope this helped you .

Mgb problems

The only way the engine would keep running smoothly (not engine pre-ignition running) is that the coil is still getting power. If you look at the coil you will see the supply side of the coil comes from the start switch. There is where you should "start" checking. I recommend you also check the start relay for sticking. Something in the starting circuit is not cutting off the voltage to the coil...allowing power to the distributor points.

Mgb 1968 starter relay location

MGB Impala? Wrong category. Not a relay in the Leyland MGB system, just the solenoid on the right apron, engine compartment pass side.

Mgb gt fuse box 1976

It just has the little 4 fuses box with a black plastic cover on the passengers engine compartment by the prop rod hole. A few wire connections in the right side engine compartment (apron) also hold a couple fuses in plastic tubes.

I connected the wires to the head light switch on a 72 mgb and the black wire melted real bad. How do i find out what wires go where

You need a wiring diagram. Use a multi meter to find which terminal on the switch gives power (12volt) black wires are always negative (-) SO WILL BURN IF CONNECTED TO POSITIVE (+12V) supply.

Have you removed the cable from the air direction control on the dash? You have to pull the cable out with the heater unit, and that means bending it through quite a severe angle, which means tugging on the heater unit. There is also a rubber block on the back of the heater unit at the bottom which fills the space between the heater unit and the bulkhead which also makes it harder to lift out (but even harder to get back with a new block!). Other than that it is 'just' a matter of pulling it up and leaning the top forwards to clear the body above it. For a pictorial blow-by-blow of removal and replacement see
