The ignition is a system not a part, so what part of the ignition system do you wish to replace? Nice doo.

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

Functional Lock

The following procedure applies to vehicles that have functional lock cylinders. Such cylinders either have a key available or known key numbers from which a key can be made.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Turn the lock cylinder key to the RUN position.
  3. Using a 1/8 in. (3mm) diameter wire pin or a small drift, depress the lock cylinder retaining pin through the access hole in the upper steering column shroud (under the ignition lock cylinder) while pulling out on the lock cylinder. Remove the lock cylinder from the column.

Using the key, turn the ignition lock cylinder to the RUN position, then depress the retaining pin using a wire pin or small drift

To install:
  1. Install the lock cylinder by turning it to the RUN position and depressing the retaining pin. Insert the lock cylinder into its housing. Make sure the cylinder is fully seated and aligned in the interlocking washer before turning the key to the OFF position. This will permit the cylinder retaining pin to extend into the cylinder housing.
  2. Rotate the lock cylinder using the lock cylinder key, to ensure correct mechanical operation in all positions.
  3. Connect the negative battery cable.

Non-Functional Lock
The following procedure applies to vehicles in which the ignition lock is inoperative and the lock cylinder cannot be rotated due to a lost or broken key, unknown key number or a lock cylinder cap that has been damaged and/or broken to the extent that the lock cylinder cannot be rotated.

Where abouts is the igbition switch located on a ford taurus 1996

Inspect/Test/Replace The ignition switch is usually mounted to the steering column and is operated by a linkage rod.
NOTE On column-mounted ignition switches, don't confuse the switch with the lock cylinder and keys. The ignition switch is not normally visible. On some vehicles, the steering column support has to be removed and the column lowered to find the ignition switch. On others, the switch is accessible under the dash.
f32-17gif.gif The ignition switch is operated by the key switch. Courtesy of Ford Motor Company. To replace the switch:
  • Remove the ignition switch wiring harness.
  • Unbolt it from its position.
  • Bolt the new switch into position.
  • Attach the witing harness.

How do you remove the ignition switch on a 94 ford aspire

disconnect the neg battery cable, then the positive, wait at least 2 minutes before doing anything else due to the airbag , remove the drivers side airbag and steering wheel, remove the lower and upper column covers , unplug the ignition switch , remove the switch detaining screw , ( if it was made in 93 and sold in 94 you may have to lower the steering column a little, ) towards the back there is a loop and pin you need to watch out for, thats the shift lock cable on an automatic. ok heres the bad part,, on some of the models,, they have a removable bolt,, on the others you have to drill out the 2 retaining bolts , on my sisters car I just by passed this mess, and was able to remove the cylinder since she had a manual transmission anyway

95 Ford taurus

Th car requires you to push the brake pedal down in order to unlock the column shifter - there's a pressure switch on the brake pedal arm that is closed when you push the pedal down. It's likely that this switch has become defective. Change that and you should be back in business.
