Question about 1994 Honda Civic

1 Answer

Gas gauge is incorrect and we replaced the fuel pump, what else could it be?

Gas gauge is incorrect what could it be? We can put in $20, and it goes to almost half a tank, but drive about 5 miles and all of a sudden it down to a quarter tank. But we still get nearly 200 miles out of $20. We replaced the fuel pump and it never goes higher than half a tank and it never goes to completely empty. It only ranges from half a tank to 1/4 of a tank.

SOURCE: engine runs bad at half tank or less

Ok ready for this one,new gas cap,its true cars with bad gas caps will cause the check engine light go on,or your problem,it has to be pressurized when full and no air in the tank its ok,but as you use gas and have air in the tank with the low fuel the air pressure is leaking pass the cap, thus losing pressure, too bad you had to fix all the other stuff but look at it as an investment, after this works please give me a fix ya thanks

Fuel tank venting system is "stopped up" somewhere along the line (this is also called the Evaporative Emission Control System). Suggest taking it to a shop for a diagnosis.

Your fuel pump assembly located inside the gas tank has a float that measures how much gasoline is in the tank. False readings means the fuel pump assembly needs to be replaced.

incorrectly and half assed installed. putting a fuel pump in a chevy is very difficult and takes patients. most mechanics dont have that so go to another shop and make sure they fix the problem before you pay.

Why is gas gauge not working correctly since fuelpump was replaced.

Is this a flex fuel vehicle. If so, call the dealership and ask the parts dept. if there is a gauge module (perhaps behind the instrument cluster). This may be the culprit and needs to be replaced.

My gas gage does not work. After I fill up with gas...withing 20-30 minutes it goes all the way down to empty. Should this be fixed or would it be too expensive to fix. The car is a 1999 Pontiac Grand Am...

Either your gauge is bad or the fuel level sender is. Most likely it's the sender in the gas tank. To replace it you would have to drain the fuel tank and pull the fuel pump/sender assembly and replace. You cannot just replace the fuel level sender with this car, the entire assembly must be changed out.

Sounds to me like you got a faulty pump. To be sure, put a fuel pressure gauge on the engine and see if the pressure drops.
