Question about 1997 Hyundai Sonata

1 Answer

How do I get the door panel off a 1997 Sonata, while the door is shut? The drivers door has jammed and the central locking is working, I can see it moving down the window glass and can move the rod against the lock. It all looks connected and appears to be a rusted door jamb mechanism.

Remove all the plastic covers that you see. There ought to be in by the door handle, and two under the armrest. You may need to remove the plastic cover by the interior door handle by pushing forward on the plastic unit. Check to ensure that all the screws are removed(philips), and tug gently on the door panel. There might be some or one that you may have missed. Do not force it off. There are plastic "anchors" that hold the door panel to the door itself. Some might break, but can be replaced with others from your local parts store

SOURCE: central locking

Resolving this problem will require removing the door panel in question, and checking for voltage at the solenoid when the unlock button is pressed.
If there is 12V at the positive wire to the solenoid, but the door does not attempt to unlock, you must replace the solenoid.
Doors are not fused individually, so the fact the other doors are operating properly rules out fuses.
Remove the door panel, and check for voltage - if there is no voltage, the wiring is suspect. This would require more in-depth troubleshooting - checking wires for continuity to ground, and overall continuity.
Start with the door. Re-post your findings and I can help you additionally.

Replace the drivers side latch. It on the door jam. You have to remove the drivers side panel to get it out. Look for screws behind plastic plugs. Around the door handle and the arm rest. Sometimes around the perimeter of the door. then the panel will pop off. pop off the plastic mounts from the rods(look at them, you'll see how they come off). Three screws and two electrical plugs on the jam and pull the latch out

Rear door will not open on my ford focus ghia t reg

Hi chance are the mechanism inside door jamming. Short of forcing off the inner panel in order to clean lubricate etc I find the best way to get this open is to get someone to keep activating your central locking open and shut while you simply keep trying the door handle at the same time and this can some times just catch the latch in just the right position to get the door open ( you dont need to forcefully be pulling on the handle as the latch will either simply click over on the fine spring latch mechanism or not force is not going to help).
Once and if you manage to get door open take off the inner door card panel and oil lubricate mechanism. rather than then shut door simply use a screw driver on latch to test and worth then working back and forth. If still jamming replace latch.

I would start with driver door lock , not the lock cyllinder , but lock assembly which is inside the door and have switches build in to it.

My 2003 Hyundai Sonata Door locks will not lock using

I have exactly the same problem. Keyfob will unlock the doors, but will only arm the alarm once the doors have been locked manually. Central locking button on driver side door no longer works, but I hear the clicking sound you're referring to.
I took it to a mechanic, and he seemed pretty sure it was a bad master window / door lock switch. The price he quoted to replace it was $255 plus tax, and I could never bite the bullet and pay for the work, so I've just been living with the problem.
Have you solved your situation yet?

Jeep grand cherokee central locking system

If all the doors do not lock or unlock when using the passenger side switch, then the switch itself is probably bad.   If the passenger side switch locks or unlocks all the other doors except for its own, then the power lock solenoid inside the door is bad or jammed.  If it is jammed, try locking and unlocking the door manually while activating the switch to work its way free.
