Question about 1990 Ford F150
When i start the truck the check engine light comes on immediately. the truck runs rough until it comes up to temp. and check engine light stays on. once i start to drive the truck above approx. 15 mph or so the check engine light goes out, BUT the truck has no power and when it shifts into OD the torque converter never locks up so it runs approx. 2000 - 2100 rpm at 55 mph. needless to say i am only getting 8 mpg at the best. any ideas?
If your check engine light is on, you will need to have it tested to see what codes have been stored. The light will stay on until it has been tested and codes cleared. Disconneting the battery for five minutes will also reset the light, but if the truck is running rough, you don't want to run it like that. It could cause severe damage to the engine. Best bet is to get it tested and correct the underlying problem before it costs you big bucks. Good Luck
