SOURCE: check engine light on. I checked gas cap and it

If this cap was in fact the cause of the problem the car is designed to reset the CEL when a certain number of ignition cycles has been met without the original problem recurring. If it does not reset itself on its own then you'll need to look at the EVAP system for any leaks or bad parts. Common causes of that code are a bad EVAP solenoid, bad fiel cap seal, dry/rotted hoses, poor hose connections.

Hi have a pontiac G6 GT 2005 I have a message that comes on saying check gas cap the 1st time it happened it was under warranty and the dealership replaced the gas cap for me, a year later the same thing...

The fuel cap needs to be tight or it will set a code. It's a pressurized fuel system. Try to tighten snug the code should clear itself. If this does'nt work exchage the fuel cap, it may not be working properly.

My check engine light came on code P0446; dashboard says "check gas cap" i took it off retightened it and check engine light still on. I noticed that the metal flap for the gas nozzle is...

The metal flap should not trigger the sensor. Once you tighten the gas cap you should clear the code and see if it comes back. Otherwise it will take a while to go away.
If it does come back even though the gas cap is tight it could be the rubber seal around the gas cap replacing that can sometimes fix this issue also.

Check engine light comes on after fueling 5 series BMW

Hi and welcome to FixYa!

As a first course of action, I strongly suggest that you tighten the gas cap. It may be a little loose that's why the engine light is on.

Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa! Have a good one!

I have honda odyssey and the service engin coms on and the cod is p1456 so ineed to figur out thanks.

This probably means:
  • P1456: Evaporative Emission Control System Leak Detected (Fuel Tank System)
  • Usually this is because your gas cap was not fully tightened. Be sure to turn it until you hear a click.
  • After you tighten the cap, it might take a couple days of driving before the light goes-out.
  • Be careful to tighten your gas cap regularly, because otherwise it puts a heavy strain on your emission system.

My 1998 honda accord check engine light Is on. And there are two p codes 1259 and 1456. how to fix?

Fuel filler cap is loose. 1456

Tighten *at least SIX* clicks. Wait three engine on-off cycles. Light
should go off.

If it does not go off, the cap may not fit tightly enough for a proper
seal. Replace cap. Occasionally, the threads in the filler necks can be
damaged, preventing the cap from being properly tightened.

CODE PO457

this is an evap code. and most of the time it's a faulty gas cap or the gas cap is not tight enough try putting some vasoline on the gas caps rubber seal and tighten it at least 3 clicks. if the light does not go out. take it to a repair shop that can do a smoke test to find the evap leak

What does the check engine light code 1456 mean

It means you have an evap system leak.I would try to clean the fuel filler neck where the fuel cap goes the make sure every time you fill up that you push a little bit on the fuel cap as you tighten it to make sure it is getting a good seal.Disconect the negative battery terminal for at least 1 minute and then reconnect to reset the car computer.Make sure fuel cap is tight and that you don't open the fuel cap while the car is running.

Engine light on tighten fuel cap

If the cap is tight then it will have to be diagnosed further. If the cap was loose then tighten it and clear the codes. It will go off on it's own but it will take a while

Computer says tighten fuel cap and Ive checked it and it was tight. Also it takes forever to fill up with gas

Tank is not venting properly when fueling. Check the vent line (which is the small line on the fill line) and also replace your fuel cap.
Hope this helps
