How do I know if my fuel pump is gone

Here is a quick test: Turn the keys so that the car is "on" but don't turn it that the engine crank. You should be able to hear a "buzzing" sound coming from the fuel tank for a few seconds each time you turn the keys to ON. The sound you hear is the fuel pump priming the engine.
If you don't hear any sound at all, it is an indication the fuel pump is not running. Check the fuse before changing out the pump.

Another indication is if you start and the car seems to start but then engine stalls. Even if you apply the gas, the engine still stalls, this indicate lack of fuel coming in due to fuel pump not working.

2002 cavalier 2.4 will not start fuel pump runs has spark

FUEL PUMP ONLY HUM'S FOR 2 SECONDS WHEN YOU TURN KEY TO ON, NOT START, POSITION. YOU CANNOT HEAR PUMP RUN WHEN CAR IS RUNNING ! THIS 2 SEC., IS THE PUMP PRIMING ITSELF TO START ENGINE. YOU MIGHT BE HEARING EITHER THE POWER STEERING OR WHATEVER, NOT THE FUEL PUMP!!!!!! GIVEN THE YEAR OF THIS CAR, YOUR FUEL PUMP COULD BE BAD, CHECK FUSES, RELAY, GROUND WIRES, TO PUMP, ALSO CHANGE YOUR FUEL FILTER !!!!! AIR FILTER ALSO !!!!!!! SPARK PLUG WIRES SHOULD ALSO BE REPLACED !!!!

Car cranks but wont start

turn key to run position, do you hear a hum that stops after a few seconds? if not check fuel pump relay then the pump. have it scanned to see if you have crank sensor signal it tells your car to fire and add fuel.

My car was driving just fine when I was driving on the highway. Then my car stop running and it won't start now. But I cant hear my fuel pump when I turn the key to on. Do u think it could be a fuel...

If you don't hear the fuel pump when you turn the key on, and usually this can be heard, then the fuel pump may be frozen or bad.

Check this by putting a pressure gauge on the fuel rail of the fuel injectors and seeing if it goes up to say 40 psi or so.

If you don't have a pressure gauge for the fuel line, then spray some starting fluid into the intake of the engine at the throttle body, and if the car starts for a few seconds, then dies, the problem is a fuel delivery problem.

Good luck on this repair.

2002 blazer crank but wont start

2 things that you have to check on no starts every time. Spark at spark plug and fuel. Turn key to run position and listen at gas tank for fuel pump to run you should hear a whining noise. This will only happen for 3 to 4 seconds then it will shut off until engine starts. You can turn key off then to run every 3 to 4 to listen for fuel pump. You may hear the relay click off in engine area even if pump does not run. Fuel pump failure is pretty common. If pump is running pull spark plug out or put a spare plug into spark plug wire and have someone crank engine set plug on engine and watch for spark. This will give you a starting point. Hope it helps.

Where is the fuel pump relay on a 01 cavalier

Assuming you've already changed the fuel filter(and that the filter is facing the correct direction) let's start to think that it IS getting enough fuel and that you could have a possible vacuum leak. First, to close the book on the fuel system, turn your key to the run position a few times. Do not turn the engine over, just turn the key on until you hear a clicking sound under the hood. This is most easily accomplished with the drivers and passengers windows open and the hood open. Each time you turn the key you should hear a click and then about 2 seconds later another click. This, is the fuel pump relay priming the system for starting. If you have someone put their ear to the filler tube(cap off) while you turn the key on and off, they should clearly hear the fuel pump running and stopping. If all that is okay, try to find the small tirevalve type fitting on the fuel rail, the one that runs alongside the injectors. With the key left in the run position, poke the little pin in the center and you should get a pretty good squirt of fluid shooting out from the valve. If you do, start the engine and have your helper listen to the pump in the filler tube again. Run it for a while or whatever time it takes to stall and if he or she heard the pump running when it stalled then your problem is not fuel. Spray some penetrating oil, with the engine running all around the intake manifold, not the air intake at the filter, but at all vacuum lines and around the mounting gaskets for the intake. If you hear the engine start to stumble then keep concentrating the spray until you pinpoint the vacuum leak. I'm tired of typing, seriously...lol Hope you find your problem, thanks, Dana

Vehicle will not start

Put a fuel pressure guage on the test port on fuel rail. With fuel injected engines if pressure is too high or low car wont start.
Cycle key off to run (not start) you should hear the pump run a few seconds and stop.

How to change a fuel pump on a cavalier 2002 engine2.2

Check for fuel delivery first.
Have someone turn the key to the ON position (not START) while you listen near the gas tank. You'll hear the pump start for a few seconds. If no sound then check the fuse panel and fuse relay box under the hood for a blown fuse. Always start with checking the easy stuff first!
