My dad and I want to fill the tranny fluid on my 96 honda accord but we can't agree on what the bolt looks like...we know the approximate area it should be located in though but there are two bolts it...

If this is an Automatic Transmission you should fill using a funnel and pouring fluid down the Dipstick tube in small amounts and checking the fluid level after each pour. Also the car should be "Warmed-Up" prior to installing the fluid, Unless the dipstick has a level reading for "COLD" and "HOT". Hope this helps!

Find transmission fluid stick

on the passenger side, down near the bottom of engine compartment, you'll see a small yellow loop handled dipstick. that's the trans dipstick. ok assuming its an automatic. manuals don't have dipstick, it has a fill plug on the side of transmission

Number of miles since last transmission filter cleaning and transmission fluid replacement could have a strong impact.
Check the fluid level and fluid color and odor.
If level is ok, and color appears good (gold or red) and odor is NOT burnt smelling, then a clog in one of the pumps inside the transmission could be the culprit - take it to your local transmission shop.

If the fluid is any of the other issues listed above,
Drain the fluid (using a 4 dollar drill pump available at Harbor Freight) via the transmission dipstick tube. Now pour in an identical amount of new fluid (amount is not specified because you cannot get all the fluid out this way - so add only the amount that you are able to remove).

Put a few miles on it and it will be much better.

BTW - I assume that you have checked for the obvious vacuum leak - cracked vacuum hose, or disconnected hose....

Let us know!! -Jim

Transmission fluid ~ where do I put it in at?

There should be a dipstick in the rear of the engine compartment (not to be confused with the engine oil dipstick) for the auto transmission. If you pull the dipstick out, you can then use a funnel in the tube and pour the appropriate amount of transmission fluid in.

By the way, I see on other forums that Hondas use a special transmisison fluid. Be sure to check your oweners manual and /or the dealer to find out.

Honda accord lx 1996 6 transmission dipstick

For the V-6 model, the dipstick is located down low on the transaxle, on the drivers side of the car, if it is low, usually 1 pint of of fluid is needed to raise from low notch to high notch. also if it appears to be dark or burnt, smells burnt, you should replace the tranaxle fluid. Good Luck!

Where is the fill plug you remove to add transmission fluid to a 6 cylinder automatic transmission

From what I know... there isnt a "plug" for the transmission fluid. You use the transmission dipstick to add fluid into the tube. Simply place the opening of the container of fluid against the dipstick and pour slowly.. the fluid should run down the dipstick into the tube. good luck

Gear fluid

Most automatic transmissions do not have a filler plug or cap. The transmission fluid is added by using a long-neck funnel, which is placed in the tube the dipstick for the transmission sits in. Be sure to test the level while the engine is running, with the transmission in either park or neutral. Be very careful not to over fill the transmission, and make sure that you have the right kind of transmission fluid for your vehicle.
