Question about 2005 Mercury Monterey

1 Answer

Emissons The emissions light came on and then a few days later it dropped down into low gear and that is all that it will do. We are USAF stationed in Germany. We can not get a good answer from the German Ford Company. The German Ford shop wants 6500Euro to replace the transmission. That is about $9000. It is a 2005. It was 3 weeks out of warrenty and my husband was deployed to Iraq. What do I do to get the van running?

You will need to have the electronics tested to see what codes have been stored. There can be numerous reasons for the transmission to shift funny. Could be a wiring issue or sensor. You will have to get it tested to perform proper diagnostics. Good Luck

Car wont pass emissons testing

The check engine light issue could be a faulty dash bulb or consul. It looks like you could do worse than get your car checked out on a diagnostic consul.

Failing that, emissions failure is usually a fault of the engine not running at optimum. Is the air filter clean, air temperature sensors clean. Finally take it out for a good run to burn of any residues before checking emissions.

Mazda 323f gxi 2,o derv 04 model failed emissons on excessive smoke

Hi, Few things to check here, first i would check the Lambda sensor as this monitors the air fuel mixture and stops the car running too lean or too rich. The most likely option is that the catalytic converter may be at fault the element inside may have broken up over time and therefore is unable to breakdown the exhaust emission into a cleaner release of exhaust fumes resulting in emissions failure. At the very worst you may have worn piston oil rings that would also produce excessive smoke emissions from the exhaust.

I have a 2000 VW Jetta TDI. I was making 50 mpg and then all of a sudden it dropped immediately to 40mpg. From one tank fill to the next. What are the possible causes? It has ~140,000 miles. The check...

Run it for a tank or two for a more accurate MPG.

Could be something external, like a change in fuel at the station you filled up at last. Here in NJ if I get 2-3 mpg more by going to a locally owned chain of Citgo's then if I go to a no-name station. I later found that the chain was putting a few goodies in to raise lubricity and centane.

Could be low tires due to a cold snap, hanging brake, temp sensor going out, MAF good but changed value, vac leak, low boost for a variety of reasons, another sensor, gremlins.......

take it back to them,a job done by the dealer has a warrenty period ,,Havent a clue what the fault could be ,anything from the oxygen sensor to a blocked air filter or just a fault in the computer,You could try disconnecting the battery and holding the cables together for a minute to discharge the capacitors that hold the memory in the ECU

It could be that your oil or coolant level is still low. When your oil or cooant level is low, your computer senses that and either shuts the fuel pump off or sets limits to it's operation.
