Only the expensive aftermarket ones work and of course the factory units. MAC tools makes them. You do not need a code reader to get the codes out of memeory just go here and learn how.

SOURCE: where can i find the OBD connector in my Subaru

Left side of dash lower cover, by your left knee. Just above hood release, there is a cover that flips upward to access your OBD connector. Hope this helps and have a great day.

Where is the obd port

Yours will be only OBD-1, and there are very very few places that can read OBD-1 anymore. Some Subaru dealers still have a Subaru "select monitor" scanner for OBD-1 cars. You also have to know which connector is the OBD-1 connector, it's among many connectors that are up under the drivers side dash . I hope this info helps.

Still having a very hard start (1994 legacy)

Your car is OBD I. If you take your car to an autozone or similar auto parts store they will read your codes for free. You can buy a code reader if you wish but you will have to get the plug for a subaru also. They can be found on ebay. The code should be cleared once the engine check light is off.

Operation and use of the OBD I system of my Subaru Outback 1997.

Your OBD sends codes from your cars computer.Check Engine Light or Service Engine Soon when lit are indicators that your OBD needs to be read for the cause. You can by readers to read yourself if you plan on servicing your cars yourself. Most AutoZone, PepBoys will offer free reading anticipating you'll buy part or have car serviced by them.Don't rush in to repairs as it's common for there to be more than one issue with why code came up.You can also go online and look up what code is what.Good Luck.

1990 Subary Legacy engine miss at idle

If you are getting a CEL (Check Engine Light) then figure out the code. This is an OBD-I engine so you need to connect the appropriate test connector and count the blinking lights. (Google Subaru OBD-1 codes).
Now as for your problem. Most common cause is the MAF (mass air flow sensor). The square box on the air intake. Try tapping it with a screw driver, the connect inside is joined only with solder and years of stress can crack the solder joint. If your engine stalls whenever you tap it, get a new one or rip off the cover and resolder the connect. Also check the IAC (Idle Air Control solenoid).

Outback wagon no power going up hills.

What's the check engine light code? You need to get the code(s) read using a code reader and then we can help. A place like AutoZone will read the code for free and then you can look it up at http://www.obd-codes.com/trouble_codes/

My subaru legacy L 1995 version shows "check engine" everytime i drive the car.how can i solve this problem?also it cant start after i drive and stop.i t starts at its own time.

Hi

Kindly have the computer scanned for codes . If the "check engine" light is on, the computer will have memory of where the problem is coming from. Take it to a nationally recognized parts store(like auto zone) and have them scan it. Most will do it for free, so there is no out of pocket expense.

Let me know what you find because this seems to be becoming a common problem.

Thanks
Rylee

Fault code

The information I can find on this shows a code 15, not 16. It shows it as a problem with the #1 shift solenoid or it's harness. Causing different internal transmission concerns. The book I found shows no code 16,this could be a miss print. Either way, this is a concern that appears to be an internal trans. problem.Good luck.
