Contact a local Nissan dealer parts dept, they can give you the definitive answers on this. I would say no they will not fit.

SOURCE: Loud knocking noise that sounds like it's

Overhead cam engines have 'followers', no pushrods-the rocker arm, for all intents and purposes, rides directly off the cam. Your engine does have 'rods' though-the rod is the assembly that connects the crankshaft to the piston, and if there is anything damaged with a rod, it is not good-at the very least, you need to replace the crank bearing, the piston wrist pin, or the rod itself could be damaged (although it this is the case it will probably not run). No matter what, if it is a 'down low' knock/rattle/thump and it changes with any increase or decrease in gas, you should park it, because if you drive the expense will go up dramatically-best to shop around for another engine (cheap in junkyards, and plentiful). You can usually get a guarantee and they are not that hard to swap out either. With the exception of bad valve seals (smoking0, the 3.0 is a very good engine and they were available in many different cars in the early/mid 90's.

Starting problems

IF its not a fuel issue as in you checked your fuel pump, fuel filter, fuel injectors and pressure regulator, try having your timing belt looked at. Maybe its time to replace it. Check your crank and camshaft sensors as well.

1997 Maxima has had 4 alternators in 4 years!

Hey! I have a 97 Maxima SE and it runs great too! I have been through 4 alternators in 12 years....3 in the first 5 and finally one for the last 7. Make sure you have a new- Nissan part specific alternator. And, make sure your battery is not weak nor small for your car size. Hope this helps!
