When I try to start the engine a hot message comes on at the temperature gage area, is this a sending unit default and it will be cleared by replacing the sending unit?

Does it continue to indicate "HOT" after it has started, or does it then go out? Does the vehicle also have a temperature gauge in addition to the over temperature warning light?

If the coolant level is at the correct level and the belt(s) are are correctly in place, it's most likely a bad sending unit.

Might try disconnecting the wire from the sending unit and see if this will cause the light to not come on.

Location of 1993 Chevy Lumina temperature gauge sending unit please?

If you follow the top radiator hose from the radiator to the enigine you will see a wire connecting to a screw in like plug. This screw in a the temperature sending unit. Disconnect the wire that is going to it and you should be able to unscrew the plug with a socket and ratchet. Be careful to do this when the engine is cold or you run a high risk of coolant spewing out and burning you. You sill lose some coolant even when it is cold but you shouldnt lose enough to have a problem with the coolant level. After you change it run the car and check the resevoir to make sure you didnot lose to much.

I have a 1995 Chevy Lumina with the ''Low Oil'' light on.

may be the oil sending unit is bad
may be the oil pump
is there any noise in the engine?
have the oil pressure check at a repair shop to make sure you have enough oil pressure
if it's ok then have the shop replace the switch while they have the old one out to check the pressure

Heater 1998 chevy s10

You need to check your coolant level first. If it is low you have a coolant leak. No hot coolant=No heat
