Really need to know the model of the vehicle because you may be dealing with a fuse or relay but again would need to know the model, engine size and if it is a Canadian model or not.

There is no way to test the ECU except by the process of elimination of every other component that can cause your symptoms. Industry failure rate of automotive control modules is less than 3%

Check for a bad distributor cap and or rotor..........a bad cap and or rotor can caues firing (cross fire)across the terminals and introduce spark to the wrong cylinders at the wrong time.......
hope this helps.....good luck!

Is the security light on? If you have spark and fuel, it should run. Any codes? Could be bad crank sensor or cam sensor.

SOURCE: 1995 AUDI 90 CS - Hard to start... spark & fuel OK

Have you tried replacing the starter? I know starters can go bad if the car is not started or run for a long time.

I am getting the same car, with the same issue.. it sat for 2 yrs and won't start.

My mechanic told me it is probably a starter.

I have got toyota noah which wont start. the cranking its there. battery is good. there is no powere to fuel pump. fuse all ok. even changed the engine control unit.

If the vehicle is fitted with an immobiliser that could be the problem. Have you checked for a spark?

If an immobiliser is fitted the new engine ECU will have to be coded before it will work.

A wiring diagram is almost essential to diagnosing the problem. There is likely to be a relay controlling the supply to the fuel pump but what controls the relay? If the relay is controlled by the engine ECU there will be no supply until the immobiliser is disarmed.

If the vehicle was presented to me I would check for a spark and if a spark is present I would provide a temporary supply to the fuel pump to test if the engine starts, proving the fault is not immobiliser-related but a wiring or switching problem.

After by by passing immoboliser on '94 ford probe,I have feed to the distributor but no spark at plugs

bypassed its immobiliser ...
yep that would be right
wont have spark at the plugs yet

i dont think fixya would like instructions given out to sort your problem

tow to the probe an auto electrician

you will need a full engine bay loom wiring diagram

other ECU wires need power at crank
the crank angle sensor has to have power feed
the injectors and fuel pump also need power

94 jeep has no spark at spark plug

94 GC ZJ body.
which engine option?
says you have no spark
so you read the fsm. on that.
on spark an fueling and the ASD relay.
no gas car runs with no spark and jeep cuts fuel if no spark is MONITORED as true, by ECU.

what a shop does,
is scan it , if no scan tool
he, uses one of the other 2 ways scan, called the blinking light deal.
i crank for 5seconds, and see if it stores, code, 11 or others.
click ZJ
click emmission
see chapter 25 on how to do flash CEL check engine tests.
the ECU will tell you if crank, cam senors are dead or they they are not dead but spark is.
if the ecu see any of those 3 errors, it cuts the ASD relay in 3seconds.

http://www.jeep4x4center.com/knowledge-base/index.htm?utm_source=cj#service

it take 2 people to do this.
person one keys start. and sees ASD close for 2seconds.
you key fast and person looks for spark
if no spark that means the ASD didnt close
1: if cam and crank DTCs didnt happen then its spark bad.
2: cam/and crank sensor pass. then no spark that means
the ignitor is dead or coil.
check spark at coil not spark plugs.... for better way.

why people get so confused here is that there is only 2 seconds
to see spark..
let me give a prime example here: (shows the ropes)
person 2 saw spark for 2 seconds, but the ECU saw the CKP crank sensor misfiring 1 out of 10 times. the ECU considers this bad
and cuts the ASD , killing ALL, and setting CKP dtc error
fix bad CKP.
see?
all 3 tests must pass or the ECU will cut the ASD.
the asd kills spark and fuel.
not just fuel.
tricky yes, but no crash and burn like seen on TV.

im not sure but this ECU might store all DTCs found cranking
some cars dont. store bad spark. only CKP and CMP bad.
the ECU does see the spark singles bouncing back from the ignition coil primary, if missing it cuts ALL>

Hi I have a 94 audi v6 and wont start there seems to be no power to injectors or spark plugs, fuel pump working . Not sure what to do

Also check the fuel pressure regulator - I had a similar starting issue and seemed to have cured it by replacing the fuel pressure regulator.

I have a mitsubishi colt, and it has problems starting in the mornings. It turns over, but wont start, when I eventually get it started its very lumpy, and when I push the accellerator the engine almost...

There is no simple answer, there are to many variables. If you have access to a scan tool, pulling the codes should help. Without them its back to old school hunt and peck method. At this point we need to narrow down the problem. You need to test for spark.
  1. Tag and disconnect the spark plug wires from the spark plugs.
  2. Remove the spark plugs and install the spark plug wires to each spark plug.
  3. Ground (do not hold spark plug) the spark plug; check if spark occurs while engine is being cranked.
Crank the engine for no more than 2 seconds at a time to prevent flooding the engine with gasoline.
If you have spark, You will want to make sure you have fuel injector pulse, along with fuel pressure. If you have spark ..simply spray some starting fluid in through the air filter and hold the gas pedal to the floor and crank it over while spraying. If it fires up, you know it is fuel related( fuel pump, regulator, or ECM if no injector pulse) . If you have no spark then look at ignition coil connection and trace through to the distributor( if equipped ). The crank shaft sensor has a tendency to fail on these as well. This should give you a few things to test and check to start you on your way to narrowing it down. If you have no spark then look at ignition coil connection for power and trace through to the distributor( if equipped ). If it is DIS( no distributor). It may be the Crank sensor or the ECU. The crank shaft sensor has a tendency to fail on these as well.
The ECU uses the signal sent from the Crank sensor to trigger the spark and fuel injectors. ( make certain you have checked all fuses)

2002 audi a4 v6 cranks but wont start..has fuel and spark.thanks..eurosontherun@yahoo.com

If it has fuel, air and spark, it only needs one more thing to fire,...compression. If it has those four things, in the correct ratio, it MUST fire. If you are 100% sure on the fuel, air and spark issue, start looking at the timing. I would also have the codes read off the ECU. Could you have " thrown " the timing belt?

Car wont start

being 94' im sure it has high miles, cam and crank sensor common to fail over time do to wear and heat exposure. check the basic, make sure you getting fuel and sparks. fuel pump only work as long the engine is turning over due to the crank sensor sense the flywheel turning. crank sensor may be faulty. no sparks, check coil make sure is good and putting out 12v, auto zone can test it for free. good coil, than check cam sensor, cam sensor senses the cam turning and tell the ecu to tell the coil to disperse the sparks to the plugs. cam and crank sensors, there no way of testing it but replacing the unit unless you have the special equipment to test it; both is fairly cheap to replace, check ebay.
