1999 Firebird knocking then stall

Well CB....a knocking noise coming from the engine is never good news.

Typically any real ugly noise that stops an engine from running is catastrophic. With the info you provided...low oil pressure, excess oil in the pan, knocking engine sounds and a motor that will now, not turn over...sounds like a bent con rod caused by a failed main bearing.

1999 v6 pontiac exploded dia-homgkn40kjilovpbxhhmhqzq-1-0.jpg
The engine overheated so the first suspect is the cooling system, some engine designs require that the thermostat be installed with the vent or bypass hole in a certain position. Failure to position the thermostat properly can cause engine overheating.

Another cause of the dreaded knock is "Knocking and pinging" caused by a low fuel octane rating, carbon deposits on cylinder walls or incorrect spark plugs... all not good. I think you would have noticed if your motor was knocking and pinging for any extended period of time.

Excess oil in the pan gets frothed up by the crankshaft slapping it around and aerates the oil which decreases its shear strength, which is what keeps metal parts from contacting directly together.
This could ruin the main crankshaft bearings.

First thing I would do is remove all the spark plugs (to reduce engine compression) and place a socket on the crank pulley bolt and try to turn the engine should be able to spin the crank....if you can't get the motor's seized up.

Good luck !

2000 kia sportage ex won't idle

Need a repair shop to diagnose it

You never should have thrown one part at it.

That is a Wish & Hope-- Push & Poke Diagnostic Theory,
that only takes your money & you replace every part, none
of them being tested or bad

I have a 91 camaro rs with 305 it starts but it has a knock in the front of the engine and if it stays running it starts to screech every couple of revolutions any ideas as to what might be going on? It...

The screeching you speak of, does it sound like the belt slipping? Does this car have A/C? To me it sounds like the A/C compressor may be trying to lock up which in turn means that its low of charge. Try to pin point the knocking noise using a cut off broom handle. Hold one side to the A/C compressor, alternator, water pump, etc, and hold the other side up to your ear (careful not to get the handle hung up in any moving parts). When you locate the knocking noise you will be able to hear it clearly through the handle. If you're still not sure if you found it or not keep trying something else until you are sure you found the origination of the knocking. Let me know how it goes. Good Luck.

2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee started, ran for a couple seconds then died now wont turn over. I've read that its an immobilizer issue, ave tried a couple of the "reset" procedures posted online....

But did you try howling at the moon with an aluminum-foil cone on your head and turning around 3 times? ;)

It sounds to me like it is time to have your computer systems scanned for fault codes. Most of the immobilizer system "fixes" posted online are temporary at best. (like the 10 minute time-out thing. That only works for certain types of failures when the system does not recognize your key on the first try. Even then, it doesn't fix anything, it only delays the inevitable for a while).

This could be something as simple as a shorted battery cell causing the computers to do crazy things, all the way to a failed control module or bad ignition switch. The only way to find out for sure is to ask the computer system that controls it.

Hi got a prob with my 2001 au ford falcon wagon . Have hit a kerb now when I turn right there's a knocking sound coming from the front left wheel , to describe the noise kind sounds like it's hitting...

i would suspect that you have damaged a drive coupling ,now this could still drive for the next ten years like this with a slight knocking noise ,my own escort has done it ever since i have had the car and its not dangerous and will not fall apart but for your own safety ask a local mechanic to have a drive for you and see what he says as it could be something more serious .But if its just the universal coupling then ignore it as it will not hurt but noise does scare some people but if it is this then it will not hurt honest

Single knock sound from dead stop or when slowing down

I had the same problem on a brand new 2008 JEEP Patriot. The solution after 2 trips to the dealer was to tighten all the suspension bolts in the front. Note wether your problem is in the front or rear and go to the dealer.
