I imagine that includes all three brake lights on the rear. If not then please clarify further..

Check condition of fuses and power to the brake light switch which sits at the top portion of the brake pedal arm. If the switch has power, then check that it is making a circuit when the pedal is depressed. If not, then replace the switch. (most likely issue)
If it isn't the issue, then check all rear light cluster connections and wiring loom for condition and connection.

It's likely a fuse or the switch though, so check those first.

Check the brake control switch situated just above the break pedal arm under the dashboard. Could be a wire loose or unplugged or the switch itself could be faulty

Brake and slip lights won't go out, brakes replaced fluid full any clues, the dealer ship wanted to replace the master cyclinder

Probably the ABS module. But did the lights come on straight after the brake work? You should first look at the abs sensors at each wheel espaecially the wheels the brake work was done on & make sure they are bolted in their slot & there is a notched wheel for the sensor to pick up on. You can test the sensors individualy with a multi meter. Jack & supprt car with stands, remove wheels for easy access, unplg the sensor at the nearest plug, set multimeter to 12VAC 12V~ and put 1 probe to each wire, spin the wheel & the multimeter will read a voltage. Repeat with all sensors at approx the same speed & you should get similar readings. Let me know the utcome of these tests.

Unable to take out of park position

Do the brake light work? No brake lights and it won't shift out of park. Check your fuses and check for loose wires. Check your brake light switch. If that has failed, you won't be able to get out of park. The other one if the shift lock solenoid which is in the shifter assembly. The brake shift interlock switch prevents the car being shifted from park unless the brake pedal is depressed. Try to apply power/ground to the proper wires & see if it will activate.. If it does, then the problem is between the brake light switch & that solenoid. Could be the wires or the switch.Make sure the shifter cable is still held down in place at the shifter assembly & under the hood. It is the interlock switch that you hear/feel clicking. It is for the prior generation but may still apply.

Good Luck and hopefully you soon will be on the road again...;-)

Brake light dodge neon 2002

Check the brake fuse in your dash's fusebox. Since the turns work, you know the bulbs are good, unless your Neon has separate brake lights. If the fuse is good, bulbs are good, then check for power at the brake light switch on the upper portion of the brake pedal. Should have 12 volts there all the time. Use a testlight or voltmeter to check. Good luck.

I replaced a cracked rear tail light with an after market new light. Now the brake light won't work but reverse lights and directional signal do. The bulbs are fine as I've moved them around and...

  • If there are no brake lights period the check the stop switch (brake light switch)
  • This is attached to the upper part of the brake pedal itself. Should be a little wire off of it. When that goes bad the brake lights will not work at all.
  • Please note that the fuse for "brakes" is ABS only and has no bearing on the brake lights themselves working.
