Injectors will tick every time they spray fuel in.if this is a front wheel drive car, sometimes the top motor mount bushings go bad and will clunk when put in reverse.

How do i fix my 2001 740i bmw it makes a ticking sound win idleing

could possibly be a lifter tapping (Ticking) ,depending on how many miles the vehicle has on it might be time for lifters to be adjusted, most foreign overhead cam engines must have lifters adjuster periodically ,if you turn on the air its puts more of a load on the engine causing a louder sound (also check oil level an engine low on oil will start to tick too.. the more wear the engine gets the looser the lifters can get over time ,look in your service manual if you have one and see what the intervals are on lifter adjustment this can give you an idea.
possible only if
the ticking sound is coming from the top of the engine usually comes from under the vavle covers where the lifters are located,

My 96 eldorado is making a ticking sound, it sounds like its inside the engine. It ticks faster when you give it gas. What could this be?

Better get a mechanic to check it out before you drive it very much.
Could be a lifter or piston pin with no oil.

Having a "clicking" sound coming from engine, or dull "thumping"

could be anything from belt noise to lifter tick to rod knock..lifter tick is under the valve covers..rod knock sounds like hitting the block with a hammer..if its rod knock see what your oil pressure is.. should be around 30 to 45 psi cold..warm will be as low as 15..depending on oil type..most lifters can be adjusted by removing the cover and doing adjusting depending on the vehicle..good luck

I have a ticking sound coming from the rear of the car in between the rear tries sounds like a clock ticking, what is it

An increasingly noisy ticking sound coming from your engine could indicate a lifter malfunction. I once had an exhaust valve lifter 'mushroom' where the cam makes contact with the flat tappet and the lifter wouldn't move up & down smoothly. This kept the exhaust valve from letting out the unspent fuel through the exhaust and the fuel had only one place to go: past the rings & into the oil. My cylinders needed rehoned.

It could be just a lifter gone bad. Unless you're into major HP(say over 400) you've probly got hydraulic lifters. This type builds up oil pressure to take up its 1/8" or so of slack they'll see when the engine hasn't recently run .

Why doesnt my 2006 dodge ram show codes for faulty lifter or or oil pressure. My truck makes a loud ticking sound coming from passenger side. sounds as if the lifters are knocking. took it in to the shop...

Most mechanical problems, such as noisy lifters or bearings, can't be detected by the engine controller and thus there won't be any codes set UNLESS the problem is causing a misfire or emission related concern. The ticking noise may well be a lifter even though none of them appear to be collapsed as the spring inside them will keep the lifter expanded but isnt' strong enough to keep them from being noisy when the lifter can no longer keep oil under pressure trapped inside. You may have to have someone do some further testing and inspecting to figure out exactly where the noise is coming from. Good luck, hope this helps!

Engine tick, sounds like a lifter, but it only does it once the engine gets good and warm. it doesn't do it around town. could also be maybe an exhaust leak between the ...

Well without hearing the tick it would be impossible to diagnose over the net. But it sounds like you have a handle on where to look.
While under the hood, exhaust and lifter ticks would sound different. A lifter would be kind of muffled while exhaust being in the open, not muffled.

Exhaust leaks are easier to see than finding one lifter ticking. Exhaust you can look around the manifolds and down pipes for black soot. You can also carefully pass your hand around things and feel for exhaust coming out.

Be sure to look at the manifolds themselves for cracks. If those manifolds have any heat shielding there could be a good place for cracks.

Ticking noise from engine

You might have a bad hydraulic valve lifter (assuming this engine has them)... you could try an aftermarket product designed to unstick valve lifters.... any auto parts store carries them.

2001 FORD FOCUS LOAD TICKING NOISE

it very well can be that depending on the severity of the ticking noise, if it sounds like its coming from the top of the engine, place your hand on it only when you first start it up and if you can feel it knocking slightly and if the noise dies away once warmed up id say its your lifter, if its a heavier knocking rather than a ticking and comes from below or bottom end of engine it may be big end bearing, not good. try putting some engine treatment through the engine oil and make sure you run it in as directions state then change the oil and filter and see if that helps :)

Rapping/ticking sound in my 2001 Chevy tracker engine.

does it go tick tick tick tick and when it warms up it stops or goes quiet?
its your lifters not getting enough oil
when u change your oil it will stop till that oil gets worn out
you will have to replace the lifters or it can also be a slack oil pump not pumping oil around the engine like it should
