First you need to make sure you know the exact source of the leak, stream or press wash the engine and drive it for about 10 miles then recheck the leaks source. Keep in mind wind pressure blows the hot oil all over the place. Do the driving at low speeds if possible.

it sounds like your valve cover is bent, you may need to buy a new one, did you use any gasket sealer with the cork gsket? if not remove the valve cover and use gasket sealer..... Apply it driectly to the cork gasket...... if you did not use sealeant this is why it is leaking.

Oil leak on a '92 Geo Tracker. Installed an O Ring, but still leaking. Any suggestions?


O-ring where? The drain plug? Distributor shaft? Or do you mean oil seal?
Geo oil drain plug specifies a compressible copper ring washer I think? Need to clean the surfaces well, and torque to spec. My own plug's seal is not perfect, but only a drop here and there usually. Autozone or NAPA can supply you a new plug and washer if needed.

My 93 crown victory Lx is leaking fluid from the back end of the motor and the front end of the transmission what is and how I fix it step by step


If its dark color it is likely rear main seal on engine. If it is red color it is front seal on transmission. check fluid levels, overfilling engine oil or transmission fluid can cause this also. both require major removal of tyranny etc. If you never done this get qualified help. .

Front oil seal leak


never guess here.
oil leaks,
no engine stated, nor year, so you wont get good advice.
mines a v6 2.5L
on most suz engines, front leaks can be.
1: top front of valve cover seal. leaks. then gravity does its thing.
2: top cap seal
3: bottom seal
4: pan seal,
5: pump seals.
doing all on a guess. is $$$$$$$$
what we do is clean it all , run for 10 miles, and see what really leaks.
or
use the UV dye kit. and find it.
you have gravity and air currents that form a chaos. there.
so only those 2 work.

It is just a slow leak and the oil pan gasket or oil drain plug is not leaking so I think it is the front seal.


It could be the front main seal or the front engine cover seal. I would degrease the area in suspect and try to pinpoint the leak. Good Luck

Engine oil leaks


severe oil leaks would be front timing cover crankshaft seal and the rear main seal or leak at oil pump at front timing cover oil leaks can come from damaged oil filter seal or damaged oil pressure sending unit.slow oil leaks oil pan gasket the valve cover gasket leaks you will see and smell smoke from under engine compartment which could be a fire hazard.

Leaking oil on right side of motor.


The crankshaft oils seals are known to leak after approx 100,000 miles. The Harmonic Balancer (fan belt pulley) end of the engine will have lots of oil and road grit around the oil pan, air conditioning compressor, power steering pump and other area in the engine bay due to wind spread. This seal can be replace without removing the engine. Remove the harmonic balancer bolt and use a pulley puller. If the seal mating surface is grooved replace the balancer too or the new seal will fail soon.

The transmission "bell housing" will weep oil and or trans fluid if the rear crankshaft seal or the transmission seal develops a leak. This seal is much larger than the front seal so it lasts longer and need replacing less often. The transmission will need to be removed from the car to reach these seals.

The oil pan is sealed with silicone engine sealant and will dry out and leak also. Sometimes the leak looks like it is the front or rear seal (pulley or transmission end of engine) but it may be the oil pan leaking and dripping into the pressure plate inspection plate or the pulley. The oil pan can be removed and resealed without removing the engine or transmission but it is a little tricky. Dropping the engine's under brace and exhaust pipe is recommended. Additional engine/transmission support is needed to do that.

While you are under the car look near the oil filter. Above and forward (toward the fan belt is forward) and see if there is oil dripping from the oil pressure sending unit wire. It will leak into the electrical connector. Squeeze it and see if oil seeps out. If so replace the sending unit. It looks kind of like a spark plug screwed into the block.

Near the oil filter you will see the power steering pump mounted to the side of the pulley end of the engine and it is over the right CV drive axle and has several hoses connected. One larger hose is a none pressure hose that gravity feeds the pump from the fluid reservoir mounted above it on the passenger side wheel well in the engine bay. This hose eventually leaks and drips power steering fluid everywhere! It is a molded hose from the dealer parts dept. and relatively easy to replace. Messy but do-able.



Now the top side of the engine. The valve cover has a rubber gasket that shrinks over time in that hot engine bay. Take a Phillips head screw driver is see how loose the screws holding it are. Really loose hu? You can tighten them but you should replace it because it shrunk and that makes the screws loose.

You will need some silicone engine sealant each side of the distributor bridge at the driver's side of the cover. Get a manual to make sure you tighten those screws in the correct order.



Distributor "O"ring seal can leak. Two 12MM bolts to remove it and put a new "O"ring on and you are set. Mark the Distributor's position to the bridge bracket BEFORE you loosen those screws. Line it back up to the marks so you don't mess up the timing and reset the timing after is even better.

Oil Is Leaking Out Under The Harminc Balancer On my 92 Jeep Wrangler,4.0 6cyl. I Replaced The Main Seal & Put A New Balancer On & It Still Leaks From The Bottom Of The Balancer


  1. timing cover is leaking oil betwwen cover and block
  2. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  3. Remove the drive belt(s), fan and fan shroud. If equipped, remove the accessory drive belt pulley.
  4. Remove the vibration damper retaining bolt and washer. Remove the vibration damper using a suitable puller.
  5. Remove the accessory drive brackets attached to the timing cover.
  6. Remove the A/C compressor, if equipped, and alternator bracket from the cylinder head and move to one side.
  7. Remove the oil pan-to-timing case cover bolts and the cover-to-cylinder block bolts.
  8. Remove the timing case cover front seal and gasket from the engine.
  9. Cut off the oil pan side gasket end tabs and oil pan front seal tabs flush with the front face of the cylinder block. Remove the gasket tabs.
  10. Clean the timing case cover, oil pan and cylinder block gasket surfaces.
  11. Remove the crankshaft seal oil seal from the cover by prying it out with a suitable tool.

To install:

  1. Install a new seal in the timing cover using a suitable seal installation tool.
  2. Apply sealer to both sides of the replacement cover gasket and position the gasket on the cylinder block. Cut the end tabs off the replacement oil pan gasket corresponding to those cut off the original gasket. Attach the end tabs to the oil pan with sealer.
  3. Coat the front cover seal end tab recesses generously with sealer and position the seal on the timing cover.
  4. Apply engine oil to the seal-oil pan contact surface, then position the cover on the cylinder block.
  5. Insert timing case cover alignment tool J22248 or equivalent, in the crankshaft opening. Install the cover-to-cylinder block bolts and tighten them to 62 inch lbs. (7 Nm). Install and tighten the oil pan-to-cover bolts to 11 ft. lbs. (13 Nm).
  6. Remove the cover alignment tool and position a replacement oil seal on the tool with the seal lip facing outward. Apply a light coat of sealer to the seal and a light coat of oil to the crankshaft. Install the seal on the timing cover.
  7. Apply a light film of oil to the vibration damper hub seal contact surface. Install the vibration damper using a suitable installation tool.

Do not hammer the damper into place as damage may result to the damper or engine.

  1. Install and tighten the crankshaft vibration damper bolt to 80 ft. lbs. (108 Nm).
  2. If equipped, install the crankshaft pulley and tighten the bolts to 20 ft. lbs. (27 Nm).
  3. Install the accessory brackets.
  4. Install the fan and fan shroud.
  5. Install the drive belt(s) and adjust to the proper tension.
  6. Connect the negative battery cable.
  7. Start the engine and check for leaks
  8. .

My toyota vienta 3VZ-FE 1996 - oil leak onto exhaust


Hi,

That engine will leak oil from

- cam cover gaskets (rear one drips on the exhaust)
- camshaft end seals
- distributor shaft o-ring (appears on top of transaxle housing)
- oil filter bracket to block o-ring seal (drips on front bank exhaust)
- crankshaft nose oil seal (have done with timing belt change)
- rear main seal (expensive, leave it be)

hi if your engine 22R front engine first in side timing cover where engine bully fitted there is oil seal, next valve cover front side between cover and head there seal not like oil seal half cercle shap it makes leak also front side of the camshaft there is oil seal..
