What way to unscrew a battery top

You do not do that

Only done from 1940 thru 1995 no more

Best to buy a battery with a flat top & small
vent on the side (no caps at all, they don't leak & last longer)

Napa has them & some motorcraft

If you try & add distilled water, the battery it will not
last long & you never add acid, if that is even avail

The auto parts stores has acid in the back in the 1960 &70's

Removed old battery put new one in now car wont idle

Step 1:

i would advise you to check the alt make sure its putting the right voltage to the battery or see if your battery is low on water.

first you need to pull the caps off the battery located on the top with writing on them

Step 2:

pop the caps off and see if the electrolyte is full and if it is not go to the store and buy distilled water and add till it reaches the top of the holes

Step 3:

put caps back on and in twelve hours if that doesnt work check the idle air control motor located next to the throttle body and tap it with a wrench

Charging battery and I do not know, if it needs to be vented or is it a seal top?

Hi there,

If the battery looks like it has caps or covers on top (either screw on, or clip on) which can be removed, then:

1) remove all caps
2) check the internal battery acid (fluid) inside is just above the plates (if not, add just enough "pre-boiled" water - which has cooled - in each compartment to cover the plates).
3) get a damp rag and place over the battery openings (to prevent any flammable gases from escaping).
4) start charging battery

DANGER: never touch any acid from the battery

If no caps or covers are present, then it is a sealed unit - charge the battery as normal.

If there is crusty sulphur type powder present on the battery terminals or battery leads, boiling water will safely remove this residue.

My coolent level is low and I need to add some water to the radiator. I cannot find the radiator cap? where do you add water?

This vehicle runs a sealed overflow tank over on the rt side of truck. the cap on it unscrews and this is where you add coolant. there is no cap on radiator

How do i put water for the radiator?

Does your car have a cap or a sealed unit? You don't want a sealed unit. You want to be able to check your water.Push down and Twist the cap off when cold, not hot, fill it up with coolant, 50/50 mix, and fill up the expansion tank. It says coolant on it. The car will balance itself out. Check the water in your battery while you are at it. It dries out too. Then check the brake fluid, power steering fluid, and oil. That should keep you busy next Saturday. Hope this helps.

I need to add some water or coolant

you need to add coolant, it protect your engine from freeze up and also keep inside of your engine from rusting

Battery light coming on

you have three separate issues here...
1- water leak...check the hoses and radiator for tighness, see if the weep hole in the water pump us leaking.  Check the radiator cap.  If all else fails...add a can of stop leak.
2- rough idle...do that overdue tune-up with new plugs. wires, cap and rotor.
3- battery light...you have an intermittent loose connection in the charging system.

I've got a 1999 Chevy Suburban. The battery light is on - indicating an electrical charging problem. I've checked the battery out and it is fine. What's the problem?

FROM: LustyKid;

First: How old is your battery--more than 3 years old to 5?. Is it the type where you add water to the cells, Take off caps and see if there is any water in them. If no water add distilled water to each cell up to the split ring. Check to make sure your battery connections are clean and free of corrosion. If all that is within limits then you..........Probably need a new one.

If the battery is OK, have the output voltage check for the alternator. It should be around 13 - 14 volts being put out. If no good replace the alternator. Hope this helps.
