Question about 2003 Dodge Grand Caravan AWD

2003 dodge caravan ignition beeps but no keys are in the ignition

The service manual says when you leave your keys in the ignition it beeps to remind you. There are no keys in and it still beeps. Also the remote will not open the rear hatch and it says as long as the vehicle is in gear it will not open and the van is in park. The switch inside the van will open it though. Can you help!

I can't be sure, but I have an 03' grand caravan. The first thing I would check would be to inspect the fuses for the lift gate, from there I would also check the battery in the key fob. The rear hatch will not open by either the fob or the inside switch if... the doors are locked or if the van is in gear. If a fuse is blown it may not allow you to unlock the doors (if that is not the case i am sorry). As far as the key in the ignition problem... it may be that the tumbler in the coulmn is worn depending on how much you put the key in and out of the ignition, or if you have a lot of keys and junk on the key ring weighting it down. The presure will tend to wear down on or more sides of the inside of the tumbler and either cause malfunction in starting or other problems revolving around the part. Do you have any issues with the locking of the steering wheel, or augsillery power?

SOURCE: dodge caravan sliding doors

First, keep in mind that as you begin to remove these doors you run the risk of causing serious scratches to the paint and glass, so put some masking tape and/or plastic sheeting around both sides of the door (rear quarter panel and rear glass, front door and front door glass)
I would get a Haynes repair guide since that's what I have to work from and it will tell you step by step with pictures, what to do. It's not hard, but you need to get all of the attach points unhooked to be successful. Suggest you have a helper working with you to keep the door steady.

SOURCE: 2002 dodge grand caravan rear hatch latch

ok, then the lock actuator is most likely seized, if you need instructions to repair, let me know, you have to get the part first, this will be a dealer item most likely. Then it's pretty simple. Remove the interior panel on the liftgate, you will see the latch and lock assembly, and a rod coming from it,the rod leads to the actuator. remove the rod, the retaining screws for the actuator, the electrical connector and then reverse for installation. Any issues let me know.

Good luck.

No not at all. The problem may be with the anti-theft system. Sometimes in older cars, especially Dodges', the theft system starts to act up even though you put the key in the ignition. You may want to have it checked out at the dealership, shouldn't cost that much just to have it looked at.

1996 Ford conversationvan when key is in the ignition there is a beeping noise that won't turn off when car is in drive. Not sure what this beeping noise issue

The key reminder (so you don't leave your keys in the ignition by accident). There is a sensor in the lock cylinder that picks up the key. Usually a small two wire plug on the bottom side of the lock cylinder. Unplugging it should disable the sensor.

Lost my manual and don't know where to find the drivers side power window fuse (and its size) for a 2003 dodge caravan

NO COST and fast PROCEDURE TO
(try to) FIX IT:

1. Sit in vehicle, on seat next to problematic window
2. Ignition key is on
3. Door in question is opened (in case you closed it)
4. While door is open, press and hold power window button in desired window travel, keep button pressed !!
5. SLAM hard the door closed with one hand while other hand holds button as per #4.
6. Watch window operate as it should.

7. Repeat 3-6 if necessary, but usually the first try works!

Keyless remote stopped working, I replaced battery

The 1997 to 2003 Dodge Caravan and Grand Caravan use a standard key and remote setup with a separate remote fob. However, the 2004 to 2009 Dodge Caravan and Grand Caravan use a combination key and remote on one device. To program a new keyless entry remote for the 1997 to 2003 Dodge Caravan, you must have at least one functional remote, which is required to enter synchronization mode. To program the combination key for the 2004 to 2009 Dodge Caravan, you must have two functional combination keys. If you do not, you'll need to see an authorized Dodge dealer for keyless entry programming assistance.

2004 to 2009 Caravan Programming Instructions
  1. Insert one of your working combination keys into the ignition. Turn it to "On"; leave it in this position for about 10 seconds but no longer than 15 seconds. Turn it to "Off" and remove it.
  2. Insert your second working combination key into the ignition within 15 seconds of removing the previous key. Turn it to "On". After 10 seconds, you'll hear a chime and the "Theft" light will begin to flash, entering synchronization mode. Turn the key to "Off" and remove it.
  3. Insert the combination key you want to program. Turn it to "On." After 10 seconds, you'll hear a chime; then the "Theft" light will turn off. When the light turns off, the combination key--including the key and the remote--is programmed.
  4. Repeat Step Three for each combination key you want to program. A total of eight can be programmed.
Hope this help (remember comment and rated).
