Hello,

My recomendation would first be to clean out your throttle body buy a can of carb clean or if you want to spend more htey make throttle body cleaner spray it in there and scrub it with a old tooth brush or you can take it off the car and clean it and let it soak in kerosene and scrub it real good soit doesnt stick anymore, Secondly the other thing that makes them do that is the map sensor or 02 sensor 02 sensor regualtes the oxygen to the motor which in return makes the car rev up like that or run at 2 low of rpms normaly you will have a check engine light though so if no light you should be good with all of the sensors.. If you have any other questions just let me know id be glad to help also if you dont mind rating me id greatly appreciate it.

Thanks,
Steve

Hi

Thats how most vehicles behave when the weather is cold .
When you start the car let it be on for sometime before you drive , also don't tap the gas many times it can effect your engine.

Most vehicles do that when they are cold...the weather does that to them. you said once it warms up its fine and that as it should be.

try tapping the gas when you start it up to get it to idle down it works sometimes

buy a dipstick heater and put it in in place of the one you have and see if that dosent help it they sell them at any autoparts store

This is very common. You can change a couple sensors so it won't go quite as high but if it is not that bad it is what the engine is suppose to do especially on chevy's. If you have any other questions or need further assistance let me know. Also please take a moment to accept and rate my solution accordingly.
Thank you,
Lee

I have a 1989 Mazda 323, when cold engine idles very high, when very cold it idles so high that rev limiter kicks in, and it revs up, limiter kicks in, revs up limiter kicks in, once it warms up idle drops...

Have it looked at by a dealer, iam not sure here but i think you have a vacumn leak like the feed pipe to the servo split but really you need a mechanic who works on these cars day in day out and they will go straight too the problem for you

Why is my renault laguna ii losing power and will not rev above 4000 ?

had similar issue but with laguna 2.0 IDE where there are 2 sensors at the end of the fuel rail left hand side of engine looking into engine bay from front of car, they both look like cylinders about 2 inches high with terminal points for wires on top, replacing the sensors resolved the issue but they were really expensive and only available from renault, i was able to run the car as long as i stayed below 4000 revs if i removed the lead from the top of one of the sensors. be aware if you do change the sensors yourself, do it a while after you have last used the car and engine is cool, as removal of sensor causes the pressurized fuel to come out at speed all over you. hope it helps

High rev at cold (winter cold!) idle

Your toyota technician should know what a "cold starting solenoid" is. It is the little thing that works your throttle until the motor warms up and something else takes over. I'd suggest going to another technician.

Chrysler 300m starts at high idle in cold weather

First check the error codes. they can be a lifesaver. Physically look under the hood for cracked or leaky vaccuum hoses. High idling often indicates a vaccuum leak somewhere. look at the vaccuum elbows on both the right and left side of the engine just about midway down the engine from front to back on the plenum- that's the big, black flat assy that channels the air as it goes into the engine.
Once again the codes can tell us alot.

i cannot specifically point out what the problem might be, but an overheating car---never a good thing. check everything related to cooling. fans, radiator, hoses, waterpump, coolant overflow tank(see if its got a brownish color or looks like there is oil), and check your oil while your at it...
