Question about 1994 Chevrolet Cavalier

Install drive axle on 94 chevy cavalier

Trying to re install drive axle on 94 chevy cavalier, can't seem to get past the c ring to get it clipped in at the tranny, the c ring seems to have a little play when I push it around and I think that its sticking up to far on the gear which is keeping me from sliding over it.

is the c ring supposed to be a little loose or do I need a new c ring that is tighter, or can I take this one of and maybe clamp it a little tighter and re install it?

need input, please advise, thanks

The inner axle just pries out for a snap ring is installed on the inner part of the shaft to keep it in place. Use a screwdriver to pop it out near the trns housing or attach a puller on the outer shaft to pop it out

94 chevy cavalier drive axle

just a prybar that looks like a big bent flat screwdriver the axles just pop out when you have everything else disconected try not putting any holes in the oilpan watch what your prying on and it shouldnt take much than a rap with your hand on the prybar once it's ready to pop out.

Replacement procedure for drive axle 94 chevy cavalier

1. Remove tire
2. Remove axle nut. (this is a large nut, maybe 19mm or even bigger. these can be tough to get off sometimes without an air gun.)
3. Remove cotter pin and nut from the lower ball joint.
4. You can first try hitting the side of the ball joint with a hammer and if it doesn't pop it loose you will have to use a Pickle fork. If you have to use a pickle fork and the ball joint is old it may get damaged so you may want to replace that while your at it.
5. If necessary use a hammer to tap on the axle to push it out of the hub assembly. Once it is out of there you can give it a tug and see if it will come out without a fight from the transmission. If it doesn't come right away you can get under there with a large screw driver and pry it out.
6. Install new axle carefully into the transmission and make sure you push it all the way in, than just do the above steps in reverse order and your set. Good luck!
