Question about Cars & Trucks
My engine light comes on some times and stays on at other times. When the gas gauge is at a quater of a tank it goes down to empty and the light comes on and I am sure it is at least a quarter or better. The DTE readings go blank at this point. Is this something that is covered with Nissan Protection plan.
If you are having no DTCs (Diagnostic Trouble Codes), then I'd presume you are suffering the typical fuel sender unit fault.
The sender unit is located in the gas tank, and will have to be removed to be tested.
This can be a relatively dangerous repair as fuel is involved. I would only recommend an expert for this particular fault.

SOURCE: check engine light
Your vehicle’s computer system has self-testing capability. When the computer senses that there is a problem with one of the components or sensors it stores the correspondent trouble code(s) in its memory and lights up the "Check Engine" or "Service Engine Soon" light to tell you that there is a problem and you need to diagnosed and repaired it. The light being on could be related to the gauges not working, First step is to find out what codes are present.

Sending unit died. can be expencive to replace since most sending units are integral with the fuel pump now. lots of labor too. Better to use the trip odometer till you can afford a day without your car and a $600.00 +labor repair bill.

This is a safety feature that the vehicle brings. You need to reset the E.C.U on dealership or it will keep doing it to you. It was probably caused by one single time that you did not closed the fuel cap correctly. Good luck

You're in luck
There is a possible recall on 2005-2008 nissan frontier/pathfinder and xterra, for erratic/inaccurate or
inoperative fuel gauge. This is the part# for the fuel gauge sending unit in question is #25060-ZS00A
Give your local nissan dealer and they should be able
to help you out. The reference number should be
#NTB07-069 AND 069A Hope this helps.
