Many cars run the fans after the engine shuts down to prevent fuel vapor problems on hot restart. Unless they don't shut off it is to be considered normal.

Cooling fan starts when switch on the engine, and the fan stops when i switch off the engine

cooling fan mainly turns on when your ECM senses that your engine is getting hot and there is no wind cooling down the coolant to cool your engine it usually kicks on when your idling or driving at low speeds to pull in the wind to cool the coolant. the fans don't need to turn on when the engine is off

Cooling fan keeps running after engine turned off on a 1996 ef ford falcon

Some fans do keep running after engine is switched off for a short period of time (up to 5 minutes) Check with a service person (ford) to see if that is the case or if you have a faulty sensor.

00115_cooling_fan_switch.jpgThe cooling fan switch on electric fans monitors coolant temperature signals from the engine control computer. When the engine is cool, the switch opens to keep the fan from spinning. When engine is warm, the switch closes to turn fan on for cooling. How To Instructions:
Inspect - Check for obvious problems.
Test - Give it an in-depth diagnosis.
Replace - Out with the old, in with the new.

Why does the fan keep running on 2005 jetta after turning off

You are talking about the thermo electric cooling fan, its operation is independent of the car's electical system. It is switched on and off by the engine temperature. When you park, the engine heat soaks upward to heat the thermostat turning the fan on. It will run until the engine cools down and the thermostat switches it off. Quite normal operation.

Where is the location of the coolant fan switch temperature sensor?

V6 2.8L top right rear of engine. Fan also turns on through A/C pressure switch and coolant temperature sensor, but these should operate independent of the coolant temp switch.
V8 5.0L and 5.7L (Heavy Duty) lower right rear of engine above starter.
Base model V8 uses the coolant sensor (top right of engine) and A/C pressure switches (lower right corner of eng compartment on A/C line to turn on the cooling fan. Fan is energized on all applications through the cooling fan relay.

Fan continues running after turning off ignition

HI. This will, generally, be the result of the cooling fan switch.

The cooling fan switch on most electric fans monitors coolant temperature signals from the engine control computer. When the engine is cool, the switch opens to keep the fan from spinning. When the engine is warm, the switch closes, thus, turning the fan on for cooling.

I would advise to Inspect the cooling fans(thermal switch),wires and connections. Cooling fan switch problems are often caused by faulty wiring or loose or corroded connections rather than the failure of the switch itself. If the wires or connections are bad, replace them. If you think the switch is defective, it should be tested.

The electric fan cooling switch, or thermal switch, can be tested by placing the element in a bucket of water. Heat the water to approximately 207°-216°F (97°-102°C) and connect the switch leads to an ohmmeter(make sure to keep the switch leads out of the water). The switch should have no continuity until the temperature reaches this level. Let the water cool off below 207°F (97°C) and the switch should lose continuity. If the switch has no continuity at any temperature, replace it.

NOTE_The thermal switch is located on the top of the radiator, usually on the passenger side.

Engine cooling fan will not turn off

It is controlled by the Coolant Temperature Sensor. it is located on the engine by the thermostat housing. It is brass colored with a small plug going to the fans.
Did you recently change your battery or otherwise remove the battery ? Sometimes it has happened that the battery is removed and the fan will turn on and the check engine light. You can try and remove the negative cable wait a minute , then reconnect it back,.

Over heating

Check fan thermostatic switch. Could be in the radiator or by the upper radiator hose on the engine. The thermostatic switch is what turns the fans on when the engine gets hot.Fans are supposed to come on when the A\C is on.
