Question about 1999 Cadillac DeVille

1 Answer

Car stalls, oil light comes on, smoke from under hood

The car will periodically stall at idle (lights and stop signs) and the oil light will come on when it does, its fine while driving, the car used to overheat but the mechanic replaced the hoses and its fine now, but the car still smokes after you drive it for awhile, and it smells like burning antifreeze.

the car is leaking a little oil, but how is it that it runs fine and doesn't over heat anymore, and it blew a head gasket, and it doesn't explain the random stalling, im thinking its something electrical or the oil pump or something. there is no white smoke or any other symptoms of a head gasket, but ill check the oil to be safe tomorrow

I have a 1999 Saturn SL2. Two days ago while driving down the road my car started jerking and when I stop at a light, when I push on gas it acts as if it doesnt want to go. Also, I smelled a smell such as burning oil coing from under th hood and whe I parked I seen smoke coming from the hood. A relative also stated that he seen smoke coming from the exhaust but did not mention what color. I know I need two motor mounts and a valve cover because my oil is leaking which might explain the burnig smell and smoke. What does this sound like to you? Should I try to get it fixed or give it up?

leaking antifreeze from the from of radiator after car has been driven. I have antifreeze in it along with the antifreeze stop leak and it just started smoking from under front hood.

Sound like the overheating of the engine did some internal damage. ethier an intake or head gasket or maybe even a warped or cracked head. worse case senero would be a cracked block. check the oil see if it looks milky like a grey sludge. most likely it is a head gasket. have a leak down test preformed to confirm. the labor for the head gaskets is 9 hours for 1 or 11.5 for 2. I would replace both and have the mechanic check the heads and block for cracks while he has it apart.

when a fuel injected car has a head gasket or intake gasket leaking. it may not leak all the time but periodic leaking into the cylinder will creat a knock and the knock sensor picking up a knock begins to ****** the timing to the point of stalling the engine out. the reason the oil light comes on is because the engine needs to be turning in order to pump oil. let me know how you make out. mike

Engine stalls at stop lights and stop signs

sounds like the torque converter lock up might not be disengaging. You might also want to check for engine vacuum leaks. Does engine idle smoothly when in park or nuetral ? if the idle is good I would suspect torque converter problem.
