I took my truck and had it put on the diagnostic machine the tech told me there may be a problem with the gas emission. So that is why the gas light is always on. I need to know if changing the filter will solve this problem and wher is the fuel filter? I have a 2005 ascender.I also tried to buy a manual but cannot find the book. Do anyone know where I can purchase the book at?

My 2005 pathfinder was having the same problem. Took it to the dealer and they told me that there was a re-call on a relay that goes to the ECU. They suggested a engine diagnostics. If it turned out to be the relay, the part/labor and diagnostics would be free. My pathfinder is running great now. Hope this helps.
The diagnostic test won`t tell you if there is water or what the problem is exactly. There is a trouble tree you follow when you get a code and it will tell you test a number of things by using a multimeter or test light. Some techs skip test or just replace parts and clear the code and sometimes the test do not come up with a failure. The usual problem with this code is water in the system and it usually requires replacing the injection pump. There is a service bulletin for this vehicle not passing the I/M test. The bulletin is 06-06-04-037.What you should do is go to the dealership and see if they can give you a copy of this bulletin so you can show it to the inspectors that are performing the test.Hope this helps.Good luck.
Did you replace the gas cap? Also check the filler tube that's where the gas cap snaps on where you put gas in. The filler tube or neck has a thin lining of plastic at the top look for small cracks in it where the gas cap goes on. It there's cracks in it, it will cause an emission leak and sometimes a dealer won't find it until you spent a lot of money on diagnostics. And it depends if there best mechanic was working on it.
yes there is, the check engine light ,some times comes on for the emitions system you can try replacing the gas cap on the car ,this maybe the problem it is cheep enough ,if not you may end up putting the car on the diagnost machine ..
No recalls on it. Anyone who has owed a LS will have/will experience this problem. It's gotta be cleared. It should cost you around 70-100.00 dollars. For the gas smell, I would say it's the start of you're coils failing on you. Good luck.
I have the exact same problem it took awhile before I figured it out. This car requires the medium octane gasoline .The 87 octane gas causes the engine to run on the lean side and triggers the "service engine soon light".By putting in a higher octane gas (middle range 92 octane) the light won't come on.Or you can get your service mechanic to set a richer gas mix for your car, however you'll lose about 2-3 mpg .
