Panic alarm goes off all by it self

Hello, I had the same problem with my 2001 Maxima. The dealer suggested new key fobs, but the eventual fix was the car battery. When the battery is on the way out, the voltage drop is enough to set it off, just as it would if there was a voltage spike when someone breaks in. I have no problems now!

Being that this is a 2008 pt cruiser, I would take it back to the dealership and let them look the car over!! Should be covered under warranty!!
SOURCE: panic alarm going off intermittently
I had the same problem on my 1997 F-150. It was an Aftermarket Alarm. (Varmit) The problem is that the Mercury switch is failing inside the alarm box, underdash. Lightning will set it off. The Fix;
Take the truck to an any aftermarket alarm seller and replace only
"THE BOX". No other parts need replacement. Don't let them sell you anything else. Should be approx. $100.00 at the most.

I had the same problem with my '05 GMC Canyon. It turned out that the ignition switch was shorting out on me. Once they replaced that, no more trouble.

Check the hood latch. If it has wires connected to it, it is possible for it to have an intermittent open switch.
If the truck has remote start or is remote start ready, a hood latch with a switch built in is required. The remote start system has to see the switch closed in order to work.
The theft system sees the switch open when a theft is in progress, if the hood is closed the switch should be closed.
