I have a 99 vw passat. Retrieved unlock code from dealer via serial number. When I enter code the radio makes a static type sound and goes right back into safe mode.

IMPORTANT NOTE: You must have the security anti-theft code for your VW radio from the car manufacturer, or from a VW dealer!

The sequence of programming for VW radio is:
1. Push simultaneous "SCAN" and "RDS" keys until on the screen will appear "1000" displayed.
2. Release keys. No more push on "SCAN" and "RDS" keys because otherwise number "1000" will be considered as first safe code attempt.
3. By the #1 key you will set up the first safe code digit.
4. By the #2 key you will set up the second safe code digit.
5. By the #3 key you will set up the third safe code digit.
6. By the #4 key you will set up the four-th safe code digit.
7. Then push again simultaneous "SCAN" and "RDS" keys for confirm this safe code. On the screen will be displayed "SAFE" notice. Release keys! For few seconds a radio frequence will be displayed. The radio is now ready for use!

Looking for the OBDll connector for a 1996 Toyota Corolla ll Windy Model with a1N-T, 1453 cc turbo diesel engine. Steering wheel is on the passenger side of the car. Need this info for a friend. He has...

Look under the dash near where the steering wheel is usually located (on the driver's side).

Was this vehicle marketed in the U.S.?
1996-97 MODELS NOTE: These models require the use of the Toyota's hand held scan tool or an equivalent OBD II compliant scan tool.
  1. Prepare the scan tool according to the manufacturers instructions.
  2. Connect the OBD II scan tool, to the DLC3 under the instrument panel. The DLC3 on the 1996-97 models is located on the drivers side under the dash 88274pa2.jpg
NOTE: When the diagnosis system is switched from the normal mode to the check mode, it erases all Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC) and freeze frame data recorded. Before switching modes, always check the DTC and freeze frame data and write them down.
  3. Turn the ignition switch to the ON and switch the OBD II scan tool switch on.
  4. Use the OBD II scan tool to check the DTC and freeze frame data. Write them down.
  5. Compare the codes found to the applicable diagnostic code chart. If necessary, refer to the individual component tests in this section. If the component tests are OK, test the wire harness and connectors for shorts, opens and poor connections.

Car shakes check engine light on

You will need to read the spacific fault code from the ecu, you can either buy yourself a OBD code reader from ebay or something or take it to your local garage.

First check the timing, if the time is correct you have crank-shaft and cam-shaft sensors check by using scan tools.

1996 VW Jetta wont start

Check to see if it's getting gas or spray some starter fluid into intake. If it fires, change fuel filter first and try it without starter fluid. If it doesn't start then change fuel pump.

Battery drains when car is locked

I presume you have electrical locks. It appears that when you lock the doors the solenoid in the door is not releasing the current. You can get more info by using a scan tool. Many auto parts retailers have free loaners you can use. Call around.
