There should be 2 bolts that hold it in place maybe 3 but you need to loosen the top one and loosen the bottom one to allow slack in the belt.you take the old belt off and put the hew one on and then u need a prybar to put pressure against the new alternator to take the slack out of the belt and tighten the bolts up at the same time. on the back of the alternator you will find 2 screws that have to be taken loose and put back the same way on the new alternator. make sure u take the pos battery cable loose from the battery before u begin

2001 Ford Escape 3.0L V6 Engine Code P1409

Had this code for over 2 years on my 02 escape. FINALLY, found the solution. DONT replace your egr vacuum solenoid (unless you see broken pins on the connector). You can always test the solenoid to see if it still works if you suspect the solenoid is the culprit. Rather, most likely the problem will be in your electrical harness that connects from the solenoid to the pcm. I had no visible broken wires. However, in my case, my female connector harness that plugs into the solenoid was faulty. Replaced it by soldering the wires from a "new" harness that i got from the junk yard. If this fails for you, the problem will be almost guaranteed to be in either your pcm hardware or a broken pin at the pcm connection.

I am looking for tips and tricks for replacing the alternator on a 2001 ford escape with a 4 cylinder engine. I have the bolts out of the alternator and cannot get it out of the mounting bracket.

There is a wegde sleave on the bracket that helps hold the altenator. one of the bolts go thru it. spray some oil on it. you can take a hammer and bar and tap on the backside of the altenator to loosen it up or take a pry bar and pry it out. when prying be careful not to smash/ break anything that might be in the way.

dont bid on cars with these lights on specially if you know little about cars. these lights will make you spend significant amount if you dont know how to fix yourself.
