My car jumps when I put it into gear, but it drives fine.

I have a Chevy Malibu, 2004. It's jumping when I put it into gear, but there is no problem while I drive.

Jump, as in your idle may be too high, or it slips & bangs into gear?

Open your hood, have someone shift from reverse to drive with the parking brake set and watch how much the engine moves, my suspicion is that one or more of the engine mounts are broken, making it look like the engine wants to jump out of its 'home'- moving more the an inch or so then going into gear...pinpoint the broken mount and replace. :)

Clean the throttle body and replace the idle air control(IAC) motor. The IAC has 4 stages, sounds like it lost the first stage.

My chevy maLIBU ALTERNATOR BELT SPINS THEN STOP CAR WON'T GO ANYWHERE

Vehicles: Chevy (GM) Malibu 2001-2005 3.1L SFI OHV 6-cylinder

Your battery has died since the alternator is not charging it. Jumping the car works to start the engine since the Malibu is using the energy of the second car to start and turn the engine.
Its possible that your belt may not be correctly routed or tensioned.

Check your 3.1L engine accessory drive belt routing. The arrow points in the direction in which the drive belt moves.

Accessory Drive Belt Installation/Removal

NOTE
Routine inspection of the belt may reveal cracks in the belt ribs. These cracks will not impair the belt performance. The belt should be replaced if the belt slip occurs if a section of the belt ribs are missing. A single serpentine drive belt is used to drive all engine accessories. All belt driven accessories are rigidly mounted with the belt tension maintained by a spring loaded tensioner. The indicator on the movable portion of the tensioner must be within the limits of the marks of the stationary portion of the tensioner. Any reading outside of these limits indicates either a defective belt or tensioner.

(1) Remove engine mount.
(2) Rotate the drive belt tensioner in a clockwise motion using a breaker bar or serpentine belt tool.
(3) Remove the drive belt.

Removal and installation of the drive belt - tool is shown installed on the tensioner. Arrow points to the power steering pump pulley.

To install:

(1) Rotate the drive belt tensioner in a clockwise motion using a breaker bar or serpentine belt tool.
(2) Install the drive belt. Connect the serpentine drive belt last to the power steering pulley.
(3) Install engine mount.

I have a 1999 chevy malibu and it jumps when i put it in gear but then some times it acts normal for a few days then starts jumping again when i put it in drive some times.

Check the engine mounts with the hood open. Have an assistant observe from the side if any of them are loose when putting the engine in R or D with the parking brake and hydraulic brakes on securely. If the engine mounts are good, they will not allow the motor to twist inside of the engine compartment very much, not more than an inch or two, and good engine mounts will not allow any clunking to occur when putting the car into 'gear.'
