The airbag light staying on could be an indication that the abs computer ( located under passenger front seat ). may have gotten wet. These cars usually let water in from the front strut towers. The light staying on indicates a problem with the computer, possible things that could happed:
a: air bag DOES not deploy in an accident.
b: air bag does deploy for no reason whatsoever.

either of those could be bad.

best to have it inspected by a certified abs tech or the dealer

Airbag light on

if the air bag light is on then you have a code in the air bag module that will have to be checked out as long as there is a problem in the system the light will stay on and a fuse will not turn on the light.

could be a problem with the airbag system, or the service interval is due, contact pontiac dealer or air bag specialist, they will have a diagnostic and reset device

Sensors are in bumpers, when the light is on for air bags they are disabled to prevent false deployment. If you have complete ins. coverage the car may be covered.

Air bag light stays on

I just got a letter in the mail from Pontiac saying that if the air bag light is staying on then the air bag sensor, which is on the passenger side, may be bad.If any water has touched the sensor, that may be the cause of the light to be on.They also said that if it's on than your air bag can deploy at any time.Even if you haven't gotten into an acccident.I have the same problem and I am looking into the sensor for the air bag.You should do the same.Hope this helps you.
