Question about 2007 Volkswagen Jetta 2.5

Open Question

2007 VW jetta 2.5ltr Having problems with jetta dying. First time issue happened, warning lights in car came on, generator malfunction light and power steering. Lost power steering then car died. After a jump which we let charge for about 10 minutes, then I was able to drive a 6 hour distance. However, on the way the generator malfunction light came back on. The car died a second time after about two hours after the light came on. I got another quick jump and went about 20 feet. Went back to the car the jump it and let it charge for about 10 minutes again. Drove about 4 miles then died. I have disconnected battery cables, jumped it multiple times, but lights are still on. After a jump the engine turns over, before jump there is a ticking noise and engine will not start, lights flicker. I believe we have replaced the battery about a year ago. Any suggestions?

Check your battery cables for tightness, especially your ground cable. Now you have a new battery, so you have eliminated that as the source of the problem. Turn on your headlights, do they go out or very dim when attempting to start the car? If so, you have a poor electrical connection somewhere - loose cable, bad cable, possibly bad ignition switch.

Can i drive my vw golf whilst having fault codes p1006 and p2101

Yes you can for a short time but you will get a check engine warning light if it is not already displaying.
If you don't attend to these issues you will very likely have very significant performance problems with the engine .

Don't put off having the car fully scanned by a VW service center because it could be generating other fault codes as well as the 2 you have mentioned and you need to have the causes properly diagnosed and repairs done.

The battery warning light means the alternator is not charging the battery. And the check engine light is probably for the same issue.
Have you had the charging system checked ?

The brake lights (all 3) on my VW Sharan do not work although there is an intermittent flashing. At the same time the Glo Plug light is flashing. what is the cure?

There is a recall on the brake light switch. VW should replace it for free.

-----------------------------------------------------------------
Defective brake lights on Golf, GTI, Jetta, New Beetle and R32 are a potential safety hazard and should be replaced. February 26, 2007 - NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- Around 800,000 Volkswagen vehicles have been recalled Monday because of faulty brake lights, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said.
The 790,000 vehicles include Jettas, New Beetles, Golfs, GTIs and R32s...all in the United States.
The specific years and models affected are:
  • 1999-2005 Jetta sedans
  • 2001-2005 Jetta wagons
  • 1998-2007 New Beetle
  • 2003-2007 New Beetle Convertibles
  • 1999-2006 Golfs and GTIs
  • 2004 R32
The malfunctioning brake lights and brake light switches could fail to come on or remain stuck on.
This recall expands on one announced by Europe's No. 1 carmaker last year, when 362,000 Jettas and New Beetles were recalled due to the same defective part.
Volkswagen said that dealers will immediately be prepared to accept service appointments to perform the repair at no charge, but the notification process isn't scheduled to begin until April.
NHTSA did not say if any injuries had been reported linked to the defective brake lights.
