94 chevy cavalier drive axle

Re installing drive axle on 94 chevy cavalier:
1. after pulling off old drive axle, c ring looks ok, can it be reused or does it have to be replaced before I put new axle back on.

2. looking ahead at getting the ball joint re attached after I install the drive axle, the lower ball joint arm has alot of spring tension, how do I get it down enough in order to get the ball joint connected back to the hub? is there a trick to this, can I loosen another part to make this easier or do I have to muscle it back on? it was a real pain getting them apart in the first place. please advise. trying to finish this today, thanks.

Isn't there a stabilizer bar attached to bottom or top of it? if so, and it's has a strut/link attached from end of it to the control arm, remove that & that might give you some room to move. It's just a long bolt with a sleeve & few bushings etc. Make sure you pay attention for re-assembly.

How to remove CV Axle from Manual Transmission on 2002 cavalier

the axle just pulls or snaps out of the trans, it is held in by an internal round spring clip, they are a real bear to remove the 1st time, u must pull straight out with a sharp jerking motion to get them to release, be patient it will come out.

96 CHEVY CAVALIER. R&R DRIVE AXLE SHAFTS. AUTO TRANS.

If your looking to replace them, wich is what most do today, it is cheaper to purchase a axle with new cv joints than to rebuild them. It is a very simple job in todays cars, remove tires remove lower tie rod , remove nut in center of the rotor and pull wheel assembley to the side hanging from the strut, pull axle out replace the transmission seal, push new axle in. When putting wheel assembley on, use a hydraulic jack on bottom of the rotor to push it to the axle splines and put the new nut on .

just a prybar that looks like a big bent flat screwdriver the axles just pop out when you have everything else disconected try not putting any holes in the oilpan watch what your prying on and it shouldnt take much than a rap with your hand on the prybar once it's ready to pop out.

Replacement procedure for drive axle 94 chevy cavalier

1. Remove tire
2. Remove axle nut. (this is a large nut, maybe 19mm or even bigger. these can be tough to get off sometimes without an air gun.)
3. Remove cotter pin and nut from the lower ball joint.
4. You can first try hitting the side of the ball joint with a hammer and if it doesn't pop it loose you will have to use a Pickle fork. If you have to use a pickle fork and the ball joint is old it may get damaged so you may want to replace that while your at it.
5. If necessary use a hammer to tap on the axle to push it out of the hub assembly. Once it is out of there you can give it a tug and see if it will come out without a fight from the transmission. If it doesn't come right away you can get under there with a large screw driver and pry it out.
6. Install new axle carefully into the transmission and make sure you push it all the way in, than just do the above steps in reverse order and your set. Good luck!

Chevy Transmission Diagram

I have a 1998 olds Regency frt whl drive auto trans. Do not know the trans ref like 460 e? or what.
Any how have had a frt growl, vib @ 65 mph, up and down ride at 10mph. New balanced tires replaced lh whl bearing by guess mechanic said th whl brg was ok.
Latest Son checked the drive axles for movement--there is up and dn movement @ shaft into trans end --lh & Rh side also clunkie noise. Trans seal not leaking, yet.
I suspect brgs or a bushing in trans end as it accepts the drive axle. If it the problem is it replaceable after axle removeable??
