Test the release solenoid for the park interlock pin, 1st make sure it has 12 volts at the connector 2 the solenoid when the brake pedal is pushed and if it does make sure it works and is not sticking, this is most likely a sticking solenoid that releases the pin to let u out of park

2005 Ultimate. Why is it difficult to move from park to drive?

shifter interlocker . It's a safety device that won't allow the shifter to be taken out of park unless your foot is on the brake pedal . Your going to break it by forcing out of park . Brake switch could be bad or locking solenoid in gear shifter .
Symptom Chart Condition Possible Sources Action
  • The shift interlock system does not release/lock correctly
  • Circuitry.
  • Fuse(s).
  • Shift lock actuator.
  • Brake pedal position switch.
  • Go To Pinpoint Test E .

Shifter well not come out of park when foot on bark.

There's an "interlock" that prevents you from moving the shifter out of park when you don't have your foot on the brake. If the brake light switch isn't working, then you won't be able to pull the shifter out of park. Also, if you park on a hill, and let the car roll while it's in park, it can be very hard to pull it out of park. Set the parking brake before letting off the brake when putting into park.

I have 2001 outback with automatic transmission. The car will only start you push the interlock switch thought the center console little hole and move the shifter to neutral postion.Checked all the fuses...

The car should start in park without your foot on the brake, the brake pedal should make no difference. I would check the PRNDL switch on the side of the transmission for damage and proper operation. Most likely the switch is bad, cable is not routed right or is damaged. If you disconnect the shifter cable and make sure the trans linkage arm is fully seated in the park position, the car will start in park as long as the switch is good. If the car does not start, then you will need the switch. At the parts stores and dealership, this part name is pronounced : PRINDLE as in PRNDL (Park-Reverse-Neutral-Drive-Low).
I hope this info helps!~subyguru~

My 1998 mercedes-benz C230 will not move from park to drive

Is this a Mercedes that has a lock on the shifter the prevents movement of the shifter unless you first press your foot on the brake? If it is and if you have put your foot on the brake and it still will not shift, I would suspect the switch or the solenoid or both in that sub-system assembly. I just received your request for chat ... here is a free answer ... worth checking out. It is the same thing I would have told you in the chat. BTW, I am not a Mercedes mechanic

Having trouble getting button on side of gear shift pushed in to put vehicle put in gear. sometimes takes like 5 minutes to get released stared all at once

try and push the gear shifter forward like you are forcing it into park. while holding pressure on it try pushing the button in, and make sure your foot is on the brake pedal. Some cars have a safety feature that requires the brakes to be depressed before you can shift into drive.

My 2004 honda element shifter wont move from the park position

There are systems to prevent accidentally removing from park.

The key must be on. Sometimes this is a mechanically linked lock, sometimes electrically operated.

Newer cars usually have to be running, and your foot needs to be on the brake. With the engine running, you should hear a quite "thunk" from the transmission area when you put your foot on the brake pedal.

If you are pulling on the shifter while you put your foot on the brake, the actuator will not be able to overcome the friction your pull on the shifter causes.

It is possible that friction in the selector parts is causing the same thing. With the engine running and your foot on the brake, try pushing the shifter farther into Park to see if the actuator will let go.

If it does not feel like you are running into a lockout, sometimes transmissions are just a little stiff to get out of park, especially iof the vehicle is on a front to rear incline, causing it to try to roll against the parking pin.

Rpms get real high without much movement. at the same time couldnt switch from drive to park without it getting stuck at nuetral..finally was able to put it in drive when i took my foot "OFF" of the...

mcdevito75 here, There is a solinoid on the brake with when you step on the brakes allows the tranny shifter to shift gears, D.N.R etc. Have your local shop check this out for you. If only this solinoid or an adjustment, approx. $150.00 about the rpms and not going any where, hope it"s not the tranny itself slipping, that"s $1000.00
