SOURCE: 1989 Ford ranger rear antilock light on rear brakes lock up

metal particles on the trigger wheel sensor of the rear differential case, this causes a loose of signal and the light to come on. also a broken tooth on the trigger wheel inside the diff can cause this or a dirty/corroded connection to the sensor from water intrusion.

How to repair rear actuator for ford escape hatch

Bad lock actuator: (NOTE: If your hatch is locked)
First remove rear panel- pull the plastic panel at the top center, until (2)clips pop off, then pop (2) more clips at the mid-center. Stick your arm down until you reach the lock, with your fingers, feel for the squishy plastic( inside is the bar that goes up to unlock), it is attached to the lever to unlock. Pull up the lever until you can open the hatch. There are four more clips at the top sides and middle sides, and four plastic screws at the bottom which is only accessible when the hatch is opened.
The lock is only sold as an assembly at $100.

My rear hatch will not stay open. It very heavy to lift open

Sounds like you need new hatch lift supports. They are about $18 a piece and the autoparts store will probably install them for you.

The two rear doors on my new 2000 Ford Excursion will not lock. They do not lock when you press lock nor can you push them down to lock them.

Door latch inside door may be rusted, you can try taking off the door panels and spraying some penetrating fluid in them and working the lock rods manually and brake them free. The more likely fix may be to just replace them though. It is also possible that you need power door lock actuators also.In some cases, the actuator and latch are one in the same.

Rear hatch and barn doors will not lock or alarm with remote, key or lock button.

In time with usage, the electric locks in the doors and gates wear out.
You can purchase replacement parts... a little involved to change but doable.
I suggest a Haynes manual for photos for disassembly .
(I've got a 2001 and all 4 doors eventually quit...bought replacement parts at local dealer)
