It sounds like it may be a problem with the PATS (Passive Anti Theft System). Chevy has been having problems with PATS since 1992 til current. Even if your key doesn't have a visible "chip" in it, it is possible that you have the PATS system. The newer PATS systems work by recognizing the exact cut of the key. In some cases extremely worn out keys have been known to stop working correctly with your ignition. In worst case scenarios the ignition cylinder itself, which contains the other chip for PATS, wears out so badly that, one time in ten or more your vehicle doesn't recognize the key and fails to start. The logic is this: If a thief tries to jimmy the ignition, the PATS system shuts down the ignition system for 20 minutes (30 on some vehicles). This is supposed to discourage the thief from trying again, while still letting you start your vehicle. There are procedures for bypassing the PATS system on many vehicles, but it is not for the faint of heart. The wiring work itself isn't bad, but there are catches: 1) you must have the vehicle running while you make the modification in most cases, and not shut it off during the bypass. 2) It's recommended you install a switch in the bypassed wire so you can disable your bypass in case your vehicle needs service. 3) if the vehicle dies during the bypass for some reason, you may have to visit the dealership and get a new ignition cylinder, and a quick reprogram of the PCM or ECU to get it going again. My van won't start after driving a short distance, it will start again after 3 to 5 minutes but then will act like it's going to stall while I'm driving. What's wrong?

Hi Greg, I'm AL the owner of Big As Auto Repair in St Charles Mo

Greg, I read your complete message, but nowhere did I see that you replaced the Cam Sensor. The EGR will cause it to stall at stops but usually will not prevent it from restarting. I would try replacing the Cam Sensor before anything else. If you should need further assistance go to my website by clicking here: Auto Repair

95 chevy van g20 starts runs rough and when you step on gas it stalls

I recommend checking the EGR valve first as GM cars and trucks of this era are famous for small ckunks of carbon getting lodged in the valve seat and holding the valve open causing rough idle and general undriveability.

I parked my 02 chevy express on incline with 1/4 tank. wouldnt start.couldnt hear the pump.tapped tank still nothing. put van on level ground tapped tank and started. drove home tried again and started...

If you can rap the fuel tank on the bottom and the car starts, it's almost a guarantee that it's your fuel pump.
You have to get it replaced. Your luck at the little rapping trick runs out after awhile.

My 1992 chevy G20 van that has never given me any problems starting, just suddenly didn't start for me after taking me to the store. I was able to get it home but it wouldn;t start again until the next...

It is probably the starter . It is becoming heat soaked. When starters get old, heat build up can cause starter motor and solenoids to stick. Once it cools down parts can unstick. Get a new starter. Have it load tested.
