Question about 1993 Lincoln Town Car

1 Answer

Brake lights don't work, hazard, turn, drive, and backup do

Checked fuses, bulbs, replaced switch on brake pedal. Fuse for brakelights s/a for hazard. Hazards work. All elements in rear bulbs work. Is there a fusible link or something in headlight switch that would cause the problem?

Is this type that uses the indicator bulbs as brake light or the europeon type with seperate lights ??,check for feed to brake light switch first then hold down pedal and for current coming from other terminal.if its all working then check wiring connectors at back where they split to either side what you call pigs tails??if its the other type of wiring where the brake lights also use the indicators then their is some sort of relay but i havent a clue how to check that one out as when i have had american cars to import i have had to rewire to europeon standards .

2001 Chevy Cavalier no brake lights but turn signals/hazards/backups work just fine. any ideas?

WHEN YOU APPLY BRAKE PEDAL, do you see brake lights come on ? if no then the switch is not working fine ! switch turns lights on when you depress the pedal, releasing the plunger, lights go out when you release the pedal. this switch has a fuse @ fuse block. check it ! if ok, and brake lights do
not come on replace switch, & mount properly in bracket.

I assume the fuse has power if the hazards work.
The third brake light skips the turn signal switch, the regular brake light circuit goes thru the turn signal switch.
Do you have power going into the turn signal switch on the red lite green wire from the brake switch ?

!997 Ford Thuderbird brake lights and hazards do not work

Lets start at the beginning.
The turn signals and brake lights use different fuses but both go thru the turn signal switch and use the same bulbs.
Have you checked the fuses for each circuit and does each switch have power in and out ?

Well, lets try this, if you have a trailer connector tapped into the tail lights check that for a grounded wire. If a wire has grounded or come free from the splices they won't work.

I replaced all rear bulbs and i still have no lights when i hit the brakes

If they work when the turn signals or the hazards are on then you need to replace the brake light switch on the brake pedal bracket. If the lights don,t work on hazards but do with the turn signals, then you have a fuse blown. If none of the above work then you need to check the wiring under the truck box for a bad plug in connection, corrosion or broken wires.

No brake lights, turn signals, or 4-ways.

Did you actually check the bulbs? I believe your brake lights, signal lights, hazards all use the same bulb for each side.

Your brake lights may be your brake switch just above your brake pedal.
The signals could be your electronic flasher module (EFM) located under the dash near the steering column.
Your hazards may be affected by the EFM, but not likely and the switch for your hazards may be faulty

Brake lights not working but third brake light works?

Check your fuse for the brakes, if fuse is blown replace. If not fuse go buy a package of brake light bulbs at the auto store. Then replace the bulbs.

Hope this helps

Fuse

I would check the flasher control unit in the fuse box on the driverside under the dash and on the rear wiper it is either a fuse or the motor may be bad
and for "guest" I would check to make sure that the brake bulbs are good and if they are check the brake switch behind the brake pedal under the dash
