SOURCE: EGR Solenoid creates no vacuum

The EGR solenoid is located towards the rear of the car from the EGR vavle and slightly towards the center. It kind of stands on end. There is a vacuum line coming out the top (port C) and a green 2 wire connector plugged into it. Hope this helps.

SOURCE: EGR VALVE ON 96 FORD PROBE SE

If it's a 2.0L, 5 speed (1994-7) there are two DPFE solenoids (both w/ 3 vacuum ports) near the oil filter, which control the EGR valve. They are discontinued and impossible to find except on junked cars. (FORD #'s K5T44093-4)
I have to junk my 1996 Probe if I don't find them - Missouri emissions.

Hi,

The P0403 code represents a problem with the Exhaust Gas Recirculation Solenoid or circuit.Below is the chart that explains and directs us to where the problem may exist.

c2db8c2.gif

Since there are a number of components or wires that can be at fault for this code,I feel it is not going to be something that we should attempt to diagnose via long distance. You may wish to check the basic wiring and vacuum supply to the solenoid, but if you find that the ECM is at fault, you will want to have this type of problem backed up by a good part and labor warranty.
Most solenoids need about 20 ohms or slightly higher resistance on the primary winding circuits to function correctly.

  1. Using the VACUUM HOSE ROUTING as a guide, check to be sure that the vacuum hoses are correctly connected.
  2. Check the connection condition of the vacuum hoses, (removed, loose, etc.) and check to be sure that there are no bends or damage.
Be sure to clear any trouble codes after you have made any repairs to the system.
Below is a technical service bulletin I have located on your vehicle, It may or may not be related to your current problem. I simply wanted you to have it.

I have a 1998 Nissan Maxima GLE, I Failed the Emission Inspection (DTC) Diagnostic Trouble Codes of "P1492","P1105" What these Codes exactly? mean

A code P0300 may mean that one or more of the following has happened:
  • Faulty spark plugs or wires
  • Faulty coil (pack)
  • Faulty oxygen sensor(s)
  • Faulty fuel injector(s)
  • Burned exhaust valve
  • Faulty catalytic converter(s)
  • Stuck/blocked EGR valve / passages
  • Faulty camshaft position sensor
  • Defective compute
  • P1105MAP/BARO Pressure Switch Solenoid Valve
  • Check and clean the MAP sensor, or replace.
  • P1492EVAP Canister Purge Control/Solenoid Valve (Circuit)
  • Replacing the purge solenoid will clear code P1492 This should also clear code P0300 as well.

It is a 1'1/8 " tall x1/2" w x1/2" D apparatus , brass body enclosing brown or green plastic with electronic receptacle in the bottom with 2 hose stacking on top ,one hose in bottom, mounted with one single bolt ,driver side , in front of the air intake next to the battery . It should say NISSAN K5T46583 then Mitsubishi sign then 6524

97 Nissan Maxima OBDll code p1400. I replaced the egr valve the code still flips any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

The code p1400, is for an egrc solenoid valve, not the egr valve, they are 2 seperate items

exhaust-gas recirculation (EGR): An emissions-control system that reduces an engine's production of oxides of nitrogen by diluting the air/fuel mixture with exhaust gas so that peak combustion temperatures in the cylinders are lowered.

exhaust-gas recirculation valve (EGR valve): A valve, generally vacuum operated, to regulate the exhaust gas flow into the intake manifold.

EGR control solenoid (EGRC): receives ported and manifold vacuum, an EGR temperature sensor and a control backpressure transducer valve. THE operation of the system is controlled by the PCM which operates the EGRC solenoid. The manifold vacuum system utilizes a vacuum tap in the air intake system positioned after the throttle valve. The ported vacuum control system uses a vacuum tap in the throttle body which is exposed to an increasing percentage of manifold vacuum as the throttle valve is opened during acceleration. The backpressure transducer valve monitors the exhaust backpressure as the engine rpm increases or decreases to aid in controlling the amount of the EGR vacuum signal. The EGR temperature sensor is used to inform the PCM of temperature changes in the EGR passage way. This helps the PCM determine the EGR on/off time.

that should help on what they all do.

now by knowing all of that i highly doubt that the control solenoid could cause the problem, and if it was that then u probably have a PCM problem not the solenoid or both.P01400 generally means that the ECM is not seeing the correct voltage drop when it grounds the EGRC valve located between the banks of CLY'S near the top Radiator hose location the EGRC solenoid valve turns vacuum on to the EGR circuit or vents. With a OHM meter unplug the EGRC valve and measure resistance at the two pins. Most likely your car has a bad EGRC valve or a BAD wire to it from the engine control module. Valve Nissan Dealership would cost around $45 labor to diagnosis and replace $150. Make sure proper diagnosis is performed check the engine wiring harness with a stop lamp light bulb hooked to the EGRC connector to see if it lights up when driving. That way you know the circuit is ok. A engine harness with a open circuit is a bad surprise after spending $200 for the valve. Good Luck

Car dies when warmed up at idle and has to cool off before it stats

The EGR valve or EGR solenoid needs to be replaced
The valve will open if the engine gets warm although the solenoid does control that too. One is at fault

Describe hoe to clean a EGR vavle on a 96 Nissan

i wouldnt clean it i would simply replace it. its about 100 dollars at autozone and while you have it off go ahead and clean the metal tube that goes into the housing that the egr valve attches to. its probably clogged up with carbon get a pocket knife and poke at it till it breakes then blow air into it to make sure its clear.
