Question about 1987 Chevrolet Suburban
In my 1987 Suburban with a 454 and EFI the check engine light comes on once in a while. It always seems to be when I'm climbing a mild grade and only after a long time on the road, at least 30 minutes. I suspect some sort of EGR thing because it's at mid-throttle/moderate acceleration and hot that it seems to happen. I've checked all the wiring around the EGR and it seems OK. The real annoyance is it never leaves a code in the ECM. Next time I start it, even right after it happens, the light is off. I really don't want just start blindly throwing parts at it.
Sounds like a sticking throttle/throttle cable - what is the IAC reading with engine off and ignition on? Make sure the throttle valve is completely closed when starting the engine. Even though a new TPS sensor, you should carefully check TPS readings as you gradually open the throttle with engine not running - any uneven increase in the readings can cause the problem.

The check engine light will come on when the ECM detects knock, it will only stay on if excessive knock is detected. I would replace the fuel filter and check your fuel pressure.
Could also be a bad knock sensor as the ECM will also advance the timing to make the engine knock. If on knock is detected when the ECM is doing this it will light the check engine light.

SOURCE: Code P2158/ Throttle Body
You most likley need to replace the whole unit. But without diagnosing it its all a guess. Look at it this way. You would of already spent a couple hundred at least to place one small part. If your wrong your now going to have to spend about $500 for the whole unit plus anothe diag possibly.
