SOURCE: 1994 Mercury Cougar-no interior lights

the cougar as well as the thunderbird had a factory recall on the headlight switch burning up. if you take the plastic cover out and remove the switch you will probably find the connections are melted on the plug in. i am not sure if ford will still honor this recall because it was issued back in 99 or 00 or that is when i received the letter for my 93 t-bird, which had actually just started having problems with the lights similar to yours. a new switch later and i never had anymore problems. hope this helps

SOURCE: My ball joint poped in my 1994 Mercury Cougar, 2

If you can't do it yourself which is a good sized job, you will have to take it in and the cost for lower ball joints at a garage will run about $800 and up. If you can do it yourself it would cost around $60. You will have to take off:
1.Tire
2. Brakes and rotor and caliper
3. Tie rod end (use a fork tool to loosen)
4. unbolt bottom ball joint ( use fork tool to loosen parts)
5. Unbolt strut from wheel spindle
6. If you don't have a ball joint tool go to and Auto parts store and rent the tool to take the ball joint out.
7.Reverse the procedure when putting back together.
8. Sometimes it takes a little muscle to put them in if you don't have a press.
9. take your time and do it right. EST.. 4 hr plus if you never did it before.

SOURCE: Where is the voltage regulator on a 99 mercury

1999 ford cougar alternator putting out reduced voltage at 4000 rpm and over. Under 4000rpm fine. Voltage up to 4000 rpm about 14.5 volts. Over 4000 rpm it starts to drop and can go as low as 11.5 volts. Any ideas.

Where is the voltage regulator on a 99 mercury cougar?

The voltage regulator is a part of the alternator. If you are having pulsating issues then look for grounding issues like a corrided eyelet or loose grounding bolts.

1994 cougar will turn over but wont start, i put start fkuid and start normal

If it starts when you spray in starter fluid it would sound like a fuel supply problem. Make sure you are getting fuel and have a sufficient supply. Possibly a bad fuel pump or pressure regulator.

Cougar 1999 lights flicker after changing alternator have 14.7 volts on output

Voltage regulator is not doing its job, and it is allowing excessive voltage into the circuit. If you do not address this problem, some light bulbs and LEDs might start to burn out. Either replace the voltage regulator, or modify the circuit between alternator and regulator to match later model cougars, where this problem was solved.
