Question about 1996 Buick Roadmaster

1 Answer

Wont crank I have a 96 Buick Roadmaster that was overheating. I replaced the water pump, thermostat, and temp. gauge sensor. After it ran for about 20 minutes when it was shut off and would not start again. When the key is turned on all of the lights on the dash light up. Also when the ignition is turned on, the horn will go off and all interior and exterior lights blink. Also when the brake pedal is depressed the horn will beep. Can you give me idea what might be wrong? Battery tested, starter tested, pass key replaced. Car will only click and lights will flash. Seems to be a huge power draw when ignition is turned on.

SOURCE: 91 Buick Roadmaster wont start....... Baffeling

If the engine will not turn over using the starter then it cannot be the fuel pump. If the car has a factory inhibitor system installed, the chances are that it is this system that is preventing the car from starting. You may not have to press a button on the key fob either, it may have a transponder built into the key fob which transmits it's data at switch on.If you don't have the correct key or a key without a keyfob then the anti-theft system will NOT be disabled and the car will not start. There is no easy answer for this as you need the correct keyfob or you need to purchase and have programmed, the new keys.. If this is not the issue, let me know and I will describe further procedures for your issues..

Pass key is the security system which disables the car if it is stolen. You need the remote or a key with a chip to start the car. go to a dealer, prove ownership with registration and they will be able to help you out

SOURCE: pass key stays on1995 buick roadmaster car want crank

Short circuit probably not the problem. The pass key system is not being disabled making the car inoperable, thats why it will not crank. Either you are using a key that does not have the correct resistance(black chip in key) or if it is the same key you always used then the pass key sensor went bad. I believe it is in the steering column and a qualified mechanic could help you there.

I have a 96 Buick skylark.its overheating and I just replaced the thermostat and hose that runs from the radiator to the engine. But its still over heating.what can it be?

Bad water pump, blown head gasket, Clogged radiator, inside and out. If you constantly add coolant, head gasket. If not look to the radiator and pump.

Have a 96 Buick Park Ave. In Aug I changed the thermostat because the temp gauge showed the motor was running cold. nothing changed. In Sept I had the water pump replaced because it started leaking. M

Is your 3800 producing normal heat? If so, the temp sensor is probably bad...If not, try replacing the radiator cap...if your system has air trapped inside, it usually runs hot, not cold...the heat is the key to functioning properly for you...Your radiator is a 4 stage huge system that normally cools very well...if you have heat, I still think your temp sensor is bad...ask to see one at your parts store, will help you to locate it. Hope this helps.

Why would 2002 ford ranger 3.0L temp guage stay on extreme cold after water pump replacement?

i would think there is an air lock in the coolant system , have you run the engine whilst at stand still and opened the heater control to the hot position and leave to run for 10 mins or so , let cooldown then check coolant level

Sudden overheating with my 96 buick roadmaster

you probably have a bad thermostat which caused the overheating in the first place which popped the hose off

Overheating Express

is it acually getting hot or is it just the gauge on the dash saying so? a quality scan tool can show you what the coolant temp sensor is telling the pcm it may differ from the gauge.

1996 buick roadmaster keeps overheating: already replaced the thermostat, water pump, heater core, heater control valve, hoses and anti-freeze

A shotgun approach to repairs can really rack up the bills.

If your symptoms are loss of water and you have replaced the thermostat, you more than likely have an issue with steam. And that steam more than often comes from a bad head gasket. Most head gasket gasket failures seem to be confined to the water side initially, but let it go on bigger damage will occur.
You can buy a litmus test strip to dunk in the coolant. It will indicate if there are exhaust residuals in the water and thus a gasket failure.

However it may just be something simple, given that you have just about replaced everything:

have you given the radiator a good hosing inside and out?
is the radiator fan running when it should be?
